Lenovo Z5s with ‘Punch Hole’ Display to Launch Today in China: Expected Price, Features, Live Streaming

Lenovo is reportedly launching the Lenovo Z5s, an interesting Android smartphone with a 'Punch-Hole' display that houses the front-camera.

Lenovo Z5s

Lenovo will launch the Lenovo Z5s, one of the first commercially available Android smartphones to feature a ‘Punch Hole’ display that houses the front-camera. The official launch of the differently designed Android handset will take place in China today, December 6.

The Lenovo Z5s ushers in a new era of smartphones that ditch the display notch design introduced by Apple Inc. Several Android smartphones, right from the entry-level to the premium segment, sported the notched display. Subsequently, several Chinese companies started to include the ‘Dewdrop’ or ‘Halo’ design which was essentially a minimalistic round notch that housed the front-camera. Also, a few smartphone makers even attempted a slide-out or pop-out camera design as well.

Now companies like Lenovo, and perhaps even Samsung with the next year’s flagship Samsung Galaxy S10, are working on the next evolutionary step to minimise bezel thickness as well as eliminate the notch. The Z5s, which succeeds the Lenovo Z5, will have a vastly superior design, and a much higher screen to body ratio.

Lenovo Z5s Launch Time, Live Stream Details

The Lenovo Z5s launch event is expected to take place in the afternoon in China. As of now, we do not have any details about the exact launch time and live streaming details. Also, Lenovo VP Chang Cheng posted the image on Weibo, to save the date for a new announcement. The official teaser poster of the Lenovo Z5s is quite mysterious as it does not offer any specific details.

Lenovo would surely set up a Live Stream of the Lenovo Z5s launch event in China. However, the details of the same are currently unavailable. We will update our readers about the possibility of accessing the Live Stream of the Lenovo smartphone launch.

Lenovo Z5s Expected Specifications, Features,

Lenovo has successfully shielded the Lenovo Z5s from persistent leaks. However, The Lenovo handset was recently spotted on the TENAA website, revealing some of its key specifications and design highlights. The Android smartphone will feature a nearly bezel-less 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with a small circular cutout for the front-facing camera.

The new 11nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 octa-core processor will reportedly power the Lenovo Z5s. Also, the Snapdragon 675 employs Kryo 460 CPU cores based on ARM’s Cortex-A76 CPU micro-architecture. The chipset packs two high-performance cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz, and six efficiency-oriented cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz. Interestingly, several reports online, offer conflicting information about the processor and other specifications.

Lenovo Z5s

The Lenovo Z5s will likely feature a triple-camera setup on the back, and a single, presumably large camera sensor, on the front. However, the exact specifications of the camera lenses or sensors remain a mystery.

A 3,210mAh capacity non-removable battery with Quick Charge support will run the Lenovo Z5s. Also, the device is reportedly featuring an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Lenovo smartphone could ship with Android 8.1 Oreo, presumably with ZenUI custom skin, with an implied promise of an update to Android 9 Pie.

Lenovo Z5s Expected Price, Availability

Looking at the specifications, the Lenovo Z5s appears to be a capable and premium-looking, upper-mid range Android smartphone. The exact price and availability of the Lenovo Z5s is unavailable. However, we suspect Lenovo might restrict the Android handset to China. The company should confirm all the details of the smartphone, including exact specifications, features, price and availability at the launch event today.
