Apple will reportedly start manufacturing the iPhone 15 Plus locally in India from next quarter. As reported by ET, sources close to the plans have hinted that the Sriperumbudur Foxconn plant has already started preparations for iPhone 15 Plus production in the country. The same plant already manufactures the base iPhone 15 model in India.
In contrast, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will continue to be imported from China, explaining the huge price difference between India and the US for these models. On the contrary, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus prices have remained unchanged. Let’s take a look at Apple’s plan to manufacture iPhone 15 Plus locally.
Apple Will Start Manufacturing iPhone 15 Plus Locally in October-December

According to the latest report by the Economic Times, Apple will continue to import the iPhone 15 Plus model in India till the production starts locally. Industry executives close to the plan have revealed that the Cupertino-based tech giant has already started preparation for local production of the device at the Foxconn plant near Chennai.
According to these sources, Apple is confident that the October-December quarter will be a record quarter in India. We can assume that the confidence stems from the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus being massive upgrades for base variants with Dynamic Island, A16 Bionic, 48MP camera, and USB-C port, all at the same price as their predecessors. With the festive season around the corner, iPhone sales are expected to get a boost in the upcoming days.
However, it all depends on the demand and supply chain of the brand. Hence, Apple is also gearing up to start manufacturing the Plus variant in the country. The company already manufactures the iPhone 15 at the same plant, making it the first made-in-India iPhone to be sold on the launch day. ET report states that the production capacity of iPhone 15 at the Foxconn facility is low, and to match the demand, Apple will continue importing all iPhones from its main production facility in China till the production line in India ramps up.
Apple has been making iPhones in India since 2017, and the made-in-India pitch is the most significant part of its strategy in the country. India contributes to 7% of the total iPhone production globally, and Apple has been trying to shift its production base from China to India lately.
