Mahindra XUV400 will finally break cover in India soon, following months of speculations around the all-electric vehicle that has kept many waiting for Mahindra’s new EV. The vehicle was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 as a concept, finally taking the shape of Mahindra’s popular XUV300 compact SUV. Other than the small differences, the XUV400 will mark its distinction with a simple fact – it will be a completely battery-powered car that will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and others.

The launch date for the Mahindra XUV400 has been set for September 8, in line with the previous speculations of the car’s debut early in September. The news has been confirmed by none other than Anand Mahindra, Chairman & Team member, Mahindra Group, through a recent tweet.

Not much has been made official about the car as yet. The tweet by Anand Mahindra carries a short video showcasing a silhouette of the all-electric XUV400. We can see the car being charged by a plug-in charger, the new Mahindra logo at the front and a closed grille, symbolic of an all-electric vehicle. The most crucial piece of information is the launch date of the vehicle – September 8.

Despite the lack of official confirmation, we know much about Mahindra’s next-in-line EV already. XUV400 will be based on the SsangYong Tivoli, with a length of about 4.2 meters, a raised stance with a roof line slanting inwards as it goes back from a rather wide and imposing front. Other than the length and some basic design changes, it is likely to be very similar to the XUV300.

The design changes mentioned are likely to include the new rectangular headlamps on the XUV400 EV, with LED DRLs and triangular fog lamps placed in the headlamp cluster. The front grille will be closed off, as its electric nature will need no air inlets. The rest of the front will match that of the eXUV300 concept we saw at the Auto Expo 2020. Other changes are likely to include a new set of alloy wheels, wraparound tail-lamps, and a redesigned tailgate.

Mahindra’s electric car will be available in the country in the first quarter of next year. As has been confirmed by Mahindra already, the XUV400 electric will be out for deliveries sometime between January and March 2023. Mahindra is expected to keep a price point of around Rs 15 lakh for the electric car in India. If so, the car will directly compete with the Tata Nexon EV upon its launch.

We are likely to have more information on the XUV400 as we move closer to its launch. Stay tuned to this space to know more on the EV as the company unveils it later this month.
