Mahindra & Mahindra has finally taken the wraps off its much-awaited XUV400 electric SUV. Celebrating the World EV Day with the unveil, Mahindra revealed the launch date for the XUV400 in India as well as the specifics of the all-electric car. The highlights among these include a whopping 456km range, a top speed of 150 kmph, and an acceleration that takes the XUV400 from 0 to 100kmph in 8.3 seconds.
For those unaware, the XUV400 electric SUV has been a much-awaited electric vehicle (EV) from the house of Mahindra. The company first showcased it at the Auto Expo 2020 in a concept form, with the production-ready amalgamations of it breaking cover over the past few months. The EV is based on Mahindra’s popular XUV300 SUV, but is a tad bit longer than it, as it does not have to follow the length restrictions for sub-4-meter SUVs that most IC engine compact SUVs adhere to.
With that, everyone waiting for the new XUV400 had a fair idea of how the EV will shape up. Now that Mahindra has made it official, we can see that the XUV400 comes as the perfect electrified version of the XUV300, with slight changes to the looks that set it apart from the petrol or diesel counterpart. The absence of air inlets in the front grille, for instance, is a sure tell of its electric nature.
Here are all the details of the XUV400 that Mahindra has shared till now.
Mahindra XUV400 Launch Timeline
Mahindra says that the XUV400 electric SUV will be launched sometime in January 2023 in a phased manner. Before that, the company plans to conduct its drives, starting from December 2022 across 16 cities in phase 1. Deliveries of the XUV400 will begin by the end of January 2023.
Once up for sale, the XUV400 will compete with the likes of Tata Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max in India. The exact price of the electric SUV has not been revealed yet, though we can assume it to be priced somewhere between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. The XUV400 will be available in five colour options: Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black and Infinity Blue. These colours will feature a dual-tone roof in Satin Copper finish.

For performance, the Mahindra XUV400 promises a range of 456 kilometres on a single charge. This is based on the car’s 39.4kW lithium-ion battery pack. The company says that the battery will take about 50 minutes to gain around 80 per cent of its capacity while charging with a 50kW DC fast charger. Through a 7.2 kW charger, the charging time for a full charge will go up to 6 hours and 30 minutes. A standard 3.3 kW domestic charger will take 13 hours for the same.
