Mahindra is set to put a major foot forward in its pursuit of electric vehicles on August 15. The company has scheduled a launch event on the date and is expected to debut a new electric SUV in its portfolio. Meant to take on the likes of the Tata Nexon EV Max and Tata Nexon EV Prime, the electric car from the house of Mahindra Electric will likely be the much-awaited XUV400.
The company is known to be testing it already. And for this reason, much speculation about the electric XUV400 has been doing the rounds on the internet for quite some time now. Recent spy shots of the EV gave us the clearest look yet. Other than that, even Mahindra has not shied away from dropping hints on what the XUV400 may look like.
From what we know so far, the new electric SUV by Mahindra will be based on the petrol and diesel-powered XUV300. There will, however, be one major difference to set them apart, other than the different sources of their power. Here, we take a look at all things new that we can expect on the XUV400, as well as the similarities we may see on the upcoming EV, as compared to the XUV300.
This information has been sourced through various spy shots of the XUV400 EV that have emerged till now, as well as Mahindra’s own representation of the electric car in teasers. Of course, things can be different when the EV finally makes its debut later this month, but for now, we can trust that the XUV400 EV will be just about similar to this perception. So, without any further ado, read on to find all that we know about the upcoming Mahindra XUV400 EV so far.
Mahindra XUV400 EV: Longer in length
The XUV300 saw its length being shortened than the base vehicle – SsangYong Tivoli, in order to benefit from the subsidies offered to sub-4m vehicles. The new, electric XUV400 will have no such positives of a compact form factor and so, Mahindra will likely keep the car a bit longer, with a length of about 4.2 meters.
Other than this, there may be no difference in the silhouette of the two cars. We are likely to see the same raised stance with a roof line slanting inwards as it goes back from a rather wide and imposing front. What we can be sure to see, are some design changes on top of this shell.
Mahindra XUV400 EV: Redesigned exteriors
The first disparity to catch our attention will be the new rectangular headlamps on the XUV400 EV, with LED DRLs and triangular fog lamps placed in the headlamp cluster. The front grille will be closed off, because, electric. The rest of the front will match that of the eXUV300 concept we saw at the Auto Expo 2020.
Other changes are likely to include a new set of alloy wheels, wraparound tail-lamps, and a redesigned tailgate. The chunky bumper at the back may conclude the extended length of the XUV400 EV.
Mahindra XUV400 EV: Electric features
None of the specifics have been cleared by the company as yet, though we can expect to see a single electric motor that will run the front wheels. Autocar reports that the XUV400 EV may promise a 150hp with its electric drivetrain. Backing this up will likely be multiple options for the battery pack, with a double battery pack possibly promising a longer range of up to 400 km on a single charge.
Whether the XUV400 EV carries all these features or not remains to be seen. What we can say for sure is that Mahindra will have a solid entry into the Indian electric car industry with the launch of its first-ever all-electric SUV this month.
