MediaTek has quietly launched a new Dimensity processor. The company has announced the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC for new mid-range smartphones. The Dimensity 7200 SoC sits below the Dimensity 8200 SoC, which is the latest in the 8000 series. Vivo’s upcoming V27 5G is rumoured to feature the newly-launched MediaTek Dimensity SoC. The new Dimensity 7200 focuses on enhancing gaming and photography performance.
Like the Dimensity 9200, the Dimensity 7200 SoC is built on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s 4nm N4P fabrication process. The Dimensity 8200 SoC, which was launched recently, is also based on a 4nm process. Let’s take a look at more details about the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC.
MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC Announced: What’s New?
The new MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC will be available in smartphones as early as the first quarter of 2023, according to the company. The list of phones featuring the new chipset remains unknown. The V27 5G is rumoured to feature the new MediaTek SoC. Based on a 4nm fab, the new Dimensity 7200 has a 2 + 6 cluster. The two Cortex-A715 cores have a higher frequency of 2.8GHz, whereas the six Cortex-A510 cores clock at 2.0GHz. The SoC also features a Mali-G610 GPU, which is the same as the Dimensity 8200 SoC.
The chipset supports a Full HD+ display with up to 144Hz refresh rate. It also provides support for HDR10+, HDR and Dolby HDR. The Dimensity 7200 SoC also comes with support for up to 200MP camera sensors on the back and is capable of taking in two video streams of Full HD resolution each.
Phones with the latest Dimensity SoC can feature up to LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The chipset uses MediaTek HyperEngine 5.0, unlocking support for AI-based Variable Rate Shading. It can also help shoot videos up to 4K 30fps. It also features support for 5G sub-6GHz with up to 4.7Gbps downlink, along with 2CC Carrier Aggregation, Dual SIM 5G, etc.
In terms of connectivity, phones with a Dimensity 7200 SoC can support tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, etc. The Dimensity 7200 SoC could be a rival to the Snapdragon 778G SoC. However, on paper, the Dimensity 7200 SoC seems to be a stronger SoC with support for several modern-day features. It would be interesting to see if Qualcomm has its version of an SoC to rival the new Dimensity 7200 SoC. Does the new Dimensity 7200 SoC get you interested? Let us know in the comments below.
