MediaTek Dimensity 800U 5G Chipset Launched in India, First 5G Smartphone to Launch in January 2021

The latest MediaTek chipset comes with dual 5G SIM capabilities for 5G-ready smartphones.


MediaTek Dimensity 800U 5G processor launched in India as the company’s first 5G processor in India. The MediaTek Dimensity 800U chipset was introduced in August this year for the global markets and finally, it has made its debut in the country. The latest chipset from MediaTek comes with a host of interesting features like 5G Dual SIM Dual Standby technology, and more. The company has revealed that the new smartphones running on the latest chipset will be available from next year. Let’s take a closer look at the latest Dimensity 800U chipset from MediaTek.

MediaTek Dimensity 800U SoC features

MediaTek 5G chipset brings 5G connectivity and delivers premium experiences on mid-tier 5G smartphones. The company has revealed that new smartphones running with the latest chipset will be launched in January 2021. This will make them one of the first MediaTek powered 5G smartphones in India.

The latest MediaTek chipset comes with dual 5G SIM capabilities for 5G-ready smartphones. It offers high-quality voice calling services with dual Voice over New Radio (VoNR) from either connection. The chipset comes with integrated 5G modem supports sub-6Ghz SA and NSA networks. The chip also supports 5G+5G dual SIM dual standby (DSDS) and 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA).

The SoC comes with MediaTek 5G UltraSave technology that extends the battery life and provides a stable 5G connection. The chipset can get 2.3Gbps download speeds. The Dimensity 800U is built using a 7nm process. It has an octa-core CPU with a dual cluster consisting of two Arm Cortex-A76 processors with a clock speed of 2.4GHz. Then there are six Arm Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of 2.0GHz. Dimensity 800U integrates an Arm Mali-G57 GPU, an independent AI processing unit (APU) and LPDDR4x RAM.

The latest chipset also supports 120Hz FHD+ displays along with HDR10+ support for an enhanced visual experience. It also supports for flexible camera placement with up to 64MP cameras and quad camera capabilities. The processor comes with integrated APU and ISP to provide a series of AI camera-enhancing functions. Furthermore, it also features voice on wakeup (VoW) and dual-mic noise reduction technology. Apart from this, it also comes with a low standby power consumption of a voice assistant and more.
