MediaTek seems to have made a comeback in the smartphone SoC segment last year with a strong Helio G90 and G90T offering. The Taiwanese chipmaker further impressed with a release of the robust Dimensity 1000 and Dimensity 1000L, it’s first 5G-enabled mobile SoCs. And now, it has unwrapped the Helio G70 and the Helio G70T, which will enable gaming capabilities on budget smartphones releasing this year. The new duo will sit close to the Helio G90 SoCs in the pecking order.

MediaTek Helio G70 Features

The MediaTek Helio G70 is an Octa-Core processor consisting of two powerful Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2GHz and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.7GHz. Although the company has not mentioned anything, it is likely to be manufactured on 12nm process technology like its bigger siblings, the Helio G90 series. It can support up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM at a maximum memory frequency of 1800MHz and eMMC 5.1 storage. Further, it features Arm Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU clocked at 820MHz for graphics.

The Helio G70 can be paired with displays up to a maximum resolution of 2250 x 1080p and can encode and play 1080p videos at 60fps and 2K videos at 30fps. It also has support for commonly used codecs such as H.264, H.265 / HEVC, and VP-9. Talking about optics, the smartphones powered by Helio G70 will be capable of integrating a dual 16MP + 16MP or single 48MP camera setup. On the software side of things, features of the SoC include AI Face Unlock, AI Smart Photo Album, Single-Cam/Dual-Cam Bokeh, Hardware Warping Engine (EIS), Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) engine, MEMA 3DNR, and Multi-Frame Noise reduction.

Additionally, it features several MediaTek proprietary technologies such as CorePilot,  NeuroPilot, Pump Express for fast charging, Tiny Sensor Hub, Integrated VoW for efficient use of battery while waking up phones using voice assistants, and HyperEngine Game Technology to enable superior gaming experience. Connectivity options include 4G Carrier Aggregation, dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and FM Radio.

The MediaTek Helio G70 might debut on the recently leaked Xiaomi Redmi 9, which is expected to launch by the end of Q1 2020.
