Meizu Teases New Mobile Launch in India, Meizu 16-Series Expected to Be Unveiled on December 5

The launch of the flagship Meizu 16 is expected at the event on December 5.

Meizu went under the radar in India since the arrival of other Chinese players like Xiaomi Vivo and OPPO. The company debuted back in 2015 and it had also released some aggressively priced products but they did not gain traction in the sub-continent. Soon after that, it seemed that the brand had lost focus on the Indian market even as it kept itself alive with a few launches. The last big launch was the Meizu Pro 7 in April this year. However, the company now seems to be ready for a strong comeback with a solid portfolio of new products that is sure to raise eyebrows. Reports had been coming in since a few months regarding a fresh start in India but it is only a few days back that the company’s official Twitter handle broke the silence.

Meizu 16, Meizu 16X Launch Expected

As per that teaser, Meizu has scheduled a launch event on the 5th of December 2018 and that is all that teaser pointed out. Now, new posts from the same handle have revealed what the brand will be launching in India. From the looks of it, the new upcoming smartphone could either be the Meizu 16 or the Meizu 16X both of which have been announced in China a few months back. Reports in the Indian media suggest that it would be the former that will be announced at the event. The Meizu 16 is an all-out flagship from the company with some great features and an exquisite look with a thin bezel-less design. The Meizu 16X is also a premium product very similar to the Meizu 16 that skips on some of the flagship features.

Meizu 16 Key Features and Expected Price

Talking about the key features of the Meizu 16, it rocks a 6-inch Super AMOLED display and a screen-to-body ratio of above 90 percent. The thin bezels on the top and bottom are as slim as 7mm, almost on par with Samsung’s flagships. The AMOLED panel is there for an in-screen fingerprint reader on the device, which is available in all variants of the phone. The handset incorporates a metal design, topped with glass on both sides which almost gives it a ceramic look and feel. The back curves nicely to give a very comfortable grip on both sides of the device.

Under the hood, the Meizu 16 boasts the latest Snapdragon 845 SoC and different storage and RAM variants. The battery is a 3010mAh power pack that boots Android 8.0 Oreo. As for the camera, the Meizu 16 has rear camera combo of 12MP IMX380 + 12MP IMX350 dual-camera setup with 1.55um large pixels, HDR, OIS and AI. The front has a powerful single 20MP shooter. The Meizu 16 Plus is only an expanded version of the 16 Plus with a bigger screen (at 6.5 inches) and battery (at 3570mAh).

As for the Meizu 16X, it was announced two months back and comes with an exact same design as the flagship. However, changes are inside the chassis that make it an affordable $306 (Rs 21,500) product. Still, the Meizu 16X is a commendable premium phone with a Snapdragon 710 SoC and an Adreno 616 GPU. Also, you still get an in-screen fingerprint reader. In contrast, the Meizu 16 starts at around $397 (Rs 27,700, approx.) which makes it a very strong competitor to the likes of the POCO F1 and the OnePlus 6T. It is expected that Meizu will maintain its aggressive pricing for the Indian market as well, however exact prices will only be known at launch. The exact number of products that Meizu will launch at the India launch event is not known, however, one of these two is a given. The launch event is on December 05, 2018.
