Looks like Xiaomi may be ready to bring the Mi 8 Explorer Edition to the rest of the world. The phone is currently only available in China, but that may soon change. We have spotted the phone, under a different name, in several certification sites across the world.
Now, a Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro has appeared on the Thailand certification website. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand has listed a new Mi 8 device called the Mi 8 Pro. And we believe, this is the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, albeit with a different name.
Xiaomi announced the latest Mi 8 series in May this year, with the Mi 8 Explorer Edition being the top of the line device. The Explorer Edition was launched in July, but is currently exclusive to China. The device features a transparent back, and a in-display fingerprint scanner. The Chinese company is also set to release another Mi 8 device, called the Mi 8 Youth Edition, which would be a cheaper and less powerful variant of the Mi 8. The device would share hardware similarities with the Mi 8 SE.

Mi 8 Pro: Leak
The latest leak is basically a listing for a new Mi 8 device, which carries the moniker ‘Pro’. The supposed Mi 8 Pro appeared on the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commision, with the model number M1807E8A.
That is all the details available in the listing. This isn’t the first time that the Mi 8 Pro has appeared on online certification sites. Earlier this year, the phone had also been certified by Eurasian Economic Commission, along with several other Xiaomi devices. Apart from that, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition with the same model number was seen on Singapore’s IMDA, also with the Mi 8 Pro name.
On the Singapore certification site, the listing showed the dimensions of the device as well. And, the shown dimensions matched that of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. So yes, the phone is probably going to make a global appearance very soon.
Mi 8 Pro: Specifications
We have already mentioned that the Mi 8 Pro could just be the global variant of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. Therefore, the specifications and features would also be the same.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is expected to come with a 6.21-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a notch at the top, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The notch at the top would house sensors and tech required for the 3D face scanner. Yes, the Mi 8 Pro will have a Face scanner similar to the iPhone X. However, Xiaomi claims that this is far more superior and secure than Apple’s FaceID.
The phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, which would be paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There is no slot for a microSD card, but that’s not really a problem when you have so much internal storage. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition is actually available only in 8GB RAM and 128GB configuration, but the global variant could feature more storage.
In the camera department, the Mi 8 Pro will have a dual-rear camera setup. It will be placed vertically, similar to the iPhone X. The sensor combination will include a primary 12MP camera, and another 12MP telephoto sensor. The main sensor will get OIS, Dual-Pixel tech, PDAF, and the ability to record 4K 60fps videos. On the front, housed within the notch, is a 20MP camera with Portrait mode and other features. The phone is backed by a 3000mAh battery that supports the latest Quick Charge 4.0+ technology.
