Xiaomi recently launched the Mi Band 3; the company’s third-gen fitness wristband in the Indian market, nearly two years after the debut of the Mi Band 2. The Mi Band 2 successor comes with quite a few upgrades when compared to the Mi Band 2 and carries only a slight upgrade in terms of pricing. The device is priced at Rs.1,999, the Mi Band 3 is available exclusively via Amazon.in and Xiaomi’s own Mi.com e-commerce platforms in India. Here are 5 key features of the Mi Band 3 which make it an impressive upgrade over the older Mi Band 2.

Bigger OLED Touchscreen Display

The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is equipped with a 0.78-inch OLED touchscreen display with 128 x 80 pixels resolution, a leap in upgrade compared to the 0.42-inch OLED panel found on the Mi Band 2. Thanks to the larger display, the Mi Band 3 can show your app notifications, SMS, WhatsApp messages, and much more. The Mi Band 2 display, in comparison, can only display time and fitness data such as the step counts.

Water Resistance Up to 50 Meters

Mi Band 3 comes with a 5ATM rating for water resistance, which means users can wear it even while swimming or surfing, without having to worry about it getting damaged. Similar to the display, the Mi Band 3 got an upgrade over its predecessor when it comes to water resistance as well. The Mi Band 2, in comparison, features an IP67 rating for water resistance. An IP67 rating means the Mi Band 2 can be held in fresh water for at least 1 meter deep for a maximum period of 30 minutes.

Improved Step Counting Algorithm, Continuous Heart Rate Monitoring

Xiaomi claims the Mi Band 3 is capable of more accurate step counting, thanks to the updated algorithm. The upgraded algorithm means the Mi Band 3 will not miss even a single step that you take. In addition to more accurate step counting, the Mi Band 3 features continuous heart rate monitoring as well. According to Xiaomi, the PPG heart rate sensor in the fitness band can accurately read changes over a 24-hour period.

Up to 20 Days Battery Life

In terms of battery life, the Mi Band 3 is claimed to provide up to 20 days of standby time, which is identical to what the Mi Band 2 offers. However, you should keep in mind that the Mi Band 3 sports a bigger display and also comes with several new features. In terms of the actual capacity, the Mi Band 3 packs a 110mAh capacity battery. The Mi Band 2, on the other hand, features a 70mAh capacity battery.

Improved Connectivity

Another key improvement that the Mi Band 3 brings to the table is updated connectivity. While the Mi Band 2 comes with Bluetooth 4.0 support, the new Mi Band 3 supports the new Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy standard. The fitness band is compatible with Android devices running on version 4.4 or higher as well as IOS devices running version 9.0 or higher. Xiaomi offers a variant of the Mi Band 3 with NFC support as well, although, the company has only launched the non-NFC version in India.
