The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is the predecessor to the recently announced all-screen Mi Mix 3. The Mi Mix series started the whole bezel-less trend with smartphones. Xiaomi has been updating this series every year, with the latest Mi Mix 3 getting an all screen display.
The Mi Mix 2S is the updated variant of the Mi Mix 2 from last year, and it recently started receiving the Android 9.0 Pie update. Now, Xiaomi has begun seeding the update to the Chinese variant of the smartphone. This update is different from the Global update, and doesn’t include Google Play Store.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Android 9 Pie Update China
While the Global variant of the Mi Mix 2S started receiving the Android 9.0 Pie based MIUI 10 update earlier this month, the Chinese version has just started to get the update. This is the first Xiaomi smartphone to receive a stable Android 9.0 Pie based update. The phone had received a public beta update last month as well.
The MIUI 10 stable beta update for the Chinese variant of the Mi Mix 2S carries the build number V10.0.4.0. The global update had the build number V10.0.3.0, but that is available for the globally sold Mi Mix 2S only. Both updates come with new features, design changes, and much more. Xiaomi is delivering the update via OTA and it weighs in at 2GB. There is no official changelog available for the update yet. The Mi Forum states that this is the Beta Stable version, but we don’t really know what that means. This is perhaps the final beta update for the stable version of the software.
If you are living in China, you should start receiving this update on your Mi Mix 2S. As mentioned earlier, the update is being seeded over the air. Users who are on the previous stable beta update, should automatically get the notification for the update. The security patch on this update is still from September, which is disappointing. Nevertheless, users are at least getting to experience Pie on their devices.
MIUI 10 Android 9 Pie Update
The MIUI 10 update from Xiaomi comes with plenty of changes and improvements over the MIUI 9.6. The new UI on the MIUI 10 is mainly focused on phones with full screen displays, and includes navigation gestures for the same. Xiaomi has also focused on making the new MIUI more user friendly. There isn’t any unnecessary clutter or UI elements that come in the way of navigation. The notification menu gets improvements in terms of design as well.
Apart from that, MIUI 10 comes with new Ambient noises for ringtones and notifications. The software also allows for single camera devices to have the AI portrait mode feature. This way, you don’t need to have a dual-camera to take portrait photos. There are new apps such as Mi Drop, Mi Video, Mi Music, and more. However, some of these apps are only available for the Indian users. A better file manager is also included. The app launches are faster on the new OS and there are plenty of other improvements as well. On top of all of these changes, some of the better features from Android 9 Pie are also available on the device.
Most importantly, Xiaomi is bringing MIUI 10 to a lot of its smartphones. Devices that are over 2 years old are also getting the update, or will get the update soon. Right now, the Mi Mix 2S is the first phone to get the MIUI 10 based on Android Pie.
