The Mi TV 5X has been officially announced in India, and marks a new generation of smart TVs from Xiaomi to launch in India. The new series follows the Mi TV 4X generation of smart TVs that the company has so far sold in India, and along with the announcement, Xiaomi has also confirmed that the new series of TVs will launch at the Mi Smarter Living 2022 event, at 12PM on August 26. The new generation TV will mark a number of improvements over its previous generation, which have been teased on the Xiaomi microsite.

One of the key changes of the Mi TV 5X is its metal frame, which will adorn the narrow bezel edges of the TV. So far, the Mi TV 4X series also featured narrow bezels, but was built out of plastic. As a result, a shift to using a metal frame for the TV marks a natural course of evolution for the Mi TV 5X. Other teased features for the TV include Dolby certified surround sound, which is likely to be Xiaomi’s efforts to rival fellow Chinese OEM Realme’s latest smart TVs — which come with Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio certifications.

Xiaomi has also teased that the Mi TV 5X will feature visuals that are “fine tuned and responsive to the environment”, suggesting that the TV will come with some sort of ambient adaptive picture quality. It will also come with a new generation of PatchWall — the custom TV software that Xiaomi loads on its Mi TV devices. It is also likely to come with handsfree Google Assistant voice recognition, with far-field mics to recognise voice inputs. Xiaomi also states that the TV will come with “future ready specs”, which suggests a new chipset powering it.

The Mi TV 5X is expected to be one of many devices to be launched at the Mi Smarter Living 2022 event. Xiaomi may also bring the new generation of Mi Notebook laptops, as well as the Mi Band 6 fitness tracker. More details should be unveiled later this week, as Xiaomi gears up to introduce a new crop of hardware in India.
