Apple’s WWDC 2024 keynote just concluded, and the company announced major software upgrades – iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2. All of these bring a slew of new features and put the focus on generative AI, which Apple calls Apple Intelligence.

iPhones Getting iOS 18 Update

Apple’s iOS 18 brings a major visual overhaul to iOS. With the new update, Apple brings home screen customisation with features such as free-floating icons, dark mode icons, and icon theming.

Apple also introduced Apple Intelligence, which uses on-device language to deliver helpful features across the iPhone. Siri gets a major update, powered by Apple Intelligence. However, Apple Intelligence will be available only on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

iOS 18 Developer Beta is available today, and the Public Beta is scheduled for July.

iPads Getting iPadOS 18 Update

iPadOS 18 also brings customisation of the Home Screen and Control Center and features such as Smart Script in Notes, Collapsible sections in Notes, and more. Probably the biggest announcement for iPadOS is the new Calculator app. Yes, this is not a drill: The calculator app is finally debuting on iPads. Apple Intelligence is here on iPadOS 18, and so is the new Siri. Apple Intelligence will be available only on iPads with M1 chips and later.

iPadOS 18 Developer Beta is available, and the Public Beta is scheduled for sometime in July.

Apple Watches Getting watchOS 11

As expected, watchOS 11 was also announced for Apple Watches. It brings various new features such as Live Activities, Training Load, Vitals app, Translate app, Interactive Widgets, Redesigned Photos face, Turn-by-turn hiking navigation, and more.

watchOS 11 will be available for Apple Watches such as:

  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7

NOTE: watchOS 11 requires iPhone Xs or later with iOS 18 installed.

The watchOS 11 Developer Beta is available now, and the Public Beta will be available sometime in July.

Macs Getting macOS Sequoia Update

Apple also showcased macOS Sequoia for its various Macs and Macbooks at WWDC 2024. The latest OS brings iPhone Mirroring, which can mirror your iPhone screen directly on your Mac. Features such as Text effects, Emoji Tapbacks, Send later-in Messages, and Math Notes also debut in macOS Sequoia.

The update will finally bring proper native tiling in macOS, so you can organise your windows easily on Mac. Here are all the Mac devices getting the macOS Sequoia update:

The macOS Sequoia Developer Beta is now available, with Public Beta dropping sometime in July.

visionOS 2 for Apple Vision Pro

Apple Vision Pro received its first visionOS update, the visionOS 2. The new update comes with new features like a new Mac virtual display that lets you project the display to an equivalent of two 4K displays. With the ultrawide option turned on, the display can curve around you. It also introduces new Apple Immersive Video and the ability to create spatial photos.

The visionOS 2 Developer Beta has already arrived on Apple Vision Pro; the Public Beta will come out sometime in July.
