Motorola has launched its latest flip smartphone, the Razr 50, in India. The latest clamshell device from the brand shares the same “Flip The Script” tagline with its predecessor, the Motorola Razr 40. However, the similarities between the two devices end here. The Motorola Razr 50 has launched in a single variant, just like its predecessor. The smartphone is priced at Rs 64,999 and will be available on Amazon, Motorola.in, and retail partners, starting September 10.
The Razr 50 is the cheapest foldable launched in India this year. The brand is offering a festive discount of Rs 5,000 and a bank offer of Rs 10,000, further bringing down the effective price to Rs 49,999.
The Motorola Razr 40 was launched in India last year for Rs 59,999. The smartphone received two consecutive price cuts of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 and retailed at Rs 44,999. However, the device is currently out of stock everywhere.

The Motorola Razr 50 is available in Koala Grey, Beach Sand, and Spritz Orange colours. The Koala Grey variant features a vegan suede finish, whereas the Beach Sand and Spritz Orange variants flaunt a vegan leather finish. The IPX8-rated clamshell smartphone is 15.85mm thick when closed and weighs 188 grams. The device flaunts Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and a 6000 series high-strength aluminium frame for durability.
The Motorola Razr 40 was launched in Sage Green, Summer Lilac, and Vanilla Cream, with all three variants sporting a vegan leather back. The device is IP52-rated for dust and water resistance. It weighs 188.6 grams and is 15.8mm thick when closed. It also sports Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the front and a 7000 series aluminium frame.
The Motorola Razr 40 and Razr 50 flaunt similar design and build quality in terms of fit, finish, material, and dimensions. However, the latest launch comes with IPX8 ingress protection, which means it can survive in water up to 30 meters for an hour. But, there is no dust protection. This is worrisome, considering that a foldable smartphone has too many moving parts, and a single speck of dust can wreak havoc on the entire mechanism.
On the other hand, the Motorola Razr 40 sports an IP52 rating, which offers level 5 protection against dust and level 2 protection against water splashes. Considering the fragile mechanism susceptible to damage due to dust particles, we feel that IP52 is a better option here.

The device’s highlight is the 3.63-inch flexible LTPS AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The Motorola Razr 40 flaunts a 6.9-inch LTPO pOLED flexible display featuring FHD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The cover display is a 1.5-inch AMOLED panel with 8-bit colours, DCI-P3 colour gamut, 60Hz refresh rate, and 1000nits peak brightness.
Both smartphones feature 6.9-inch foldable displays with FHD+ screen resolution. However, the Motorola Razr 50 is the better device in the display department, thanks to the larger cover screen and higher brightness on both displays.
