OnePlus 13s Swaps the Alert Slider for a Plus Key — Here’s What It Can Do

For years, the Alert Slider has been a trademark of OnePlus phones—a simple, tactile switch that let users flip between ring, vibrate, and silent modes. It's been a familiar feature on devices like the OnePlus 13, 13R, and earlier models. But with the new entrant—the OnePlus 13s—that legacy feature takes a back seat. In its place is the Plus Key, a fresh addition located on the left frame of the device. It's minimalist in design, but don't let the looks fool you—this key brings more than just an aesthetic change. I spent some time exploring what it can actually do, and here's what I discovered.

Functionality of the Plus Key

The new Plus Key on the OnePlus 13s is surprisingly useful. You can map it to open the camera, toggle Do Not Disturb, turn on the flashlight, start a voice recording, take a screenshot, and more.

First Look at the Plus Key on the OnePlus 13s

You'd think assigning the camera to the Plus Key would just open the default app, right? Not quite. OnePlus takes it a step further; you can dive straight into specific modes like Portrait, Selfie with retouching, Pro Mode, or even jump right into video. It's like skipping the small talk and getting straight to what you actually want to do.

There's even a Translate option that works through text, the camera, conversations, your screen—and yes, even in real time. If you travel a lot or constantly switch between languages, this one's a lifesaver.

Most of these features are pretty straightforward. Press the key, and the assigned function kicks in instantly. But one option stood out to me: Save to Mind Space. It's not as obvious as the rest. Naturally, I got curious—so I set the Plus Key to that and gave it a try. Here's how it went.

What Is Save to Mind Space and How Does It Work?

Assigning the Plus Key to Mind Space turns it into more than just a shortcut—it becomes a smart assistant for your thoughts. Instead of simply saving what's on your screen, it intelligently captures and organises it into something useful.

Think of it as a digital memory bank. From articles and notes to events, to-dos, and random guides you stumble upon—it pulls all that scattered information together. Not only can it store and summarise what you collect, but it also helps you retrieve it later, right when you need it.

It takes inspiration from the structure of the human brain, dividing itself into three distinct components: Memory Space, Secondary Mind, and a personal AI assistant. Each part plays a role in organising, recalling, and interpreting your on-screen activity.

Plus Mind

Press the Plus Key, and you're doing more than just saving content. You’re triggering a system that can suggest events for your calendar, archive what you see, and let you search it later using AI-powered prompts—all under the umbrella of a single function.

It may look like a basic shortcut, but Save to Mind Space is quietly doing a lot more in the background.

Here’s What I Think About It

Using the Plus Key to activate Mind Space turned out to be just as seamless as OnePlus claims. A simple press instantly captures whatever is on the screen and sends it to the Mind Space app. What impressed me most was how well-organised everything is—each entry is sorted by date, time, and even location.

The feature stores information as well as processes it. For instance, when I saved my home screen, the Mind Space app identified and listed all the visible apps in detail. It felt like taking a mental snapshot, but smarter.

Then I tried it on an article. Mind Space analysed the text and generated a concise summary, complete with key points, the article's theme, and even the publication date—all without me needing to read the full piece.

In short, this feature makes storing and reviewing content incredibly easy. For someone like me who tends to forget details, having this kind of automated memory assistant built into the phone is a genuine productivity booster.

At the moment, the Plus Mind feature remains exclusive to the OnePlus 13s. But that won't be the case for long—a future software update is set to bring this AI capability to the OnePlus 13 and 13R as well.

That said, Plus Mind is just one part of the AI experience on the 13s. There's a lot more under the hood. Keep an eye on MySmartPrice, we're working on a full deep dive into all the AI-driven tools this phone has to offer.
