Apple Gets Notice From CCPA Over iOS 18 Performance Issues

Highlights
  • The CCPA notice has been issued based on several user complaints regarding iPhones’ performance post-iOS 18 updates.
  • Apple is gearing to roll out iOS 18.3, which is in public beta right now.

CCPA (Consumer Protection Authority) has issued a notice to Apple after receiving multiple user complaints regarding iPhones’ deteriorating performance after the iOS 18 updates. Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi confirmed the information. Here are the details.

Apple Gets CCPA Notice

The X post shared by Joshi reveals that there were many complaints regarding the iPhone performance sent on the National Consumer Helpline. The notice was sent after properly examining the complaints, and a response is now awaited.

Apple has yet to explain the matter. This move comes at a time when the brand has been under criticism for one of its AI features in iOS 18. Issues were raised by NUJ (National Union of Journalists) on the AI-based news summary feature, which showed misleading and false information to users.

Upon scrutiny, Apple decided to remove the feature from the iOS 18.3 public beta and is working on fixing the issue before re-releasing it. For those who don’t know, Apple is currently working on iOS 18.3, which should be released as a stable update soon.

The move also provides a glimpse of how the Indian government is strengthening its regulatory methods for Apple, thus providing respite to user issues. India is a key market for the tech giant, and the brand has been rapidly increasing its retail and manufacturing presence. Apple also introduced the Apple Store app to make purchases easier for people. Hence, it becomes imperative for the brand to take the matter seriously and provide a solution (via possible software updates) as soon as possible.

To recall, iOS 18’s stable update was introduced in September. The key highlight is Apple’s version of AI features, Apple Intelligence. The update also introduced several home screen customisations, the voicemail feature in India, and much more. You can read more about this here.

We will keep you posted once more details regarding the matter are out. So, stay tuned.
