Apple is expected to significantly redesign the iPhone lineup on its 20th anniversary. These new iPhones may be announced in the second half of 2027. Bloomberg’s Apple expert, Mark Gurman, has revealed that the American tech giant may opt for China to manufacture all these products, instead of India. But what’s the reason behind this major decision? Meanwhile, what new models can we expect from this upcoming lineup? Read this article to find out.
The Origin of the 20th Anniversary iPhone Is Likely to be China
Earlier this month, Mark Gurman, known for Apple-related leaks, reported via his newsletter that Apple may expand its iPhone lineup with new concepts. This updated lineup will likely include a foldable version and a bold new Pro model “that makes more extensive use of glass.” In the latest edition of the “Power On” newsletter, he suspected Apple would remain dependent on China to produce its 20th anniversary iPhone models and foldable iPhone.
The Bloomberg reporter highlighted that Apple has sufficient capacity in India to build a third of its annual US demand. He added that the brand aims to manufacture “the bulk of its US iPhones” in India by 2027. While this showcases Apple’s trust towards India, as per Gurman, it may still rely on China to produce its 20th anniversary edition of iPhones.
While Apple’s manufacturing in India has matched China in terms of the iPhone’s quality, the 20th anniversary models have complex architecture. Concerning this subject, he wrote: “They’ll require new parts and production techniques, making it far from a certainty that Apple will be able to build those outside of China.”
Moreover, he underlined that Apple has never approached other countries outside China to produce a major new product design for the initial attempt.
