HMD Global has launched a new retro-style flip phone with a Barbie theme. It’s a keypad phone aimed at freeing users from digital distractions. The device also comes with several Barbie Easter eggs and free gifts inside the package. The phone was designed in a partnership between HMD Global and Mattel, the owner of the Barbie franchise. The HMD Barbie flip phone integrates the Barbie theme in every corner. The device features a pink colour with a dark pink keypad. It also comes with replaceable back panels featuring designs from the 1992 Barbie doll series. The flip screen can also be used as a mirror for doing makeup on the go.
The HMD Barbie flip phone also has a custom theme, which can be activated by pressing *#227243#, which types BARBIE as per the T9 dialer. The device also has Barbie-themed ringtones, wallpapers, and sound effects.
HMD also bundles a beaded phone strap, mini sunglasses, roller skate toy, and other small gifts within the package. These gifts are packaged in an HMD and Barbie-branded jewellery box. The package also comes with a pink USB-C cable for charging.
The HMD Barbie flip phone has a 2.8-inch QVGA primary screen and a 1.77-inch external display. It is powered by the Unisoc T107 processor. The phone comes with 64MB RAM and 128MB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card.
The phone has a VGA rear camera paired with an LED flash. It supports Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, FM Radio, dual SIM, and 4G LTE. The device is powered by a 1450mAh removable battery.
The HMD Barbie Flip phone is priced at 99 GBP (approximately Rs 11,000) in the United Kingdom, 129 Euros (approximately Rs 12,000) in Europe, and USD 129 (approximately Rs 10,800) in the United States. It is unlikely to launch in India.
Note that the HMD Barbie flip phone is a custom-themed version of the Nokia 2660 Flip phone, which is officially available in India on Amazon for Rs 4299. It has the same technical specifications but obviously lacks the Barbie-themed design and the bundled gifts.
