iOS 18.2 Public Beta Starts Rolling Out With New Apple Intelligence Features But There’s a Catch

Highlights
  • Apple rolls out iOS 18.2 Public Beta globally with new Apple Intelligence features.
  • There’s a secondary waitlist for the newly added Apple Intelligence features.

iOS 18.2 Public Beta is now available for download for users globally. Those who have signed up for the beta program can install the latest public beta and start experiencing new Apple Intelligence features, including Writing Tools, ChatGPT integration, and Visual Intelligence. Apple has also added features like Genmoji‌, ‌Image Playground‌, and Image Wand, but there’s a catch. Here’s what you need to know.

iOS 18.2 Public Beta Brings New Apple Intelligence Features

The latest iOS 18.2 Public Beta update brings several new Apple Intelligence features onboard. You get the Image Playground, a dedicated app that generates images from text prompts. While it’s a standalone app, Apple has also integrated it into Messages, Freeform, and Notes. Another text prompt-based feature is GenMoji, which allows users to create Animojis based on themselves or their contacts.

Apple has also upgraded Siri with ChatGPT integration. If Siri can’t process an inquiry, it will send the request to ChatGPT after the user gives permission. The best part is that the user doesn’t need to have a ChatGPT account for this function.

The latest public beta update also brings the iPhone 16 series-exclusive Visual Intelligence, similar to Google Lens. Users can point at anything using the camera, and the feature will detect text, read out loud, recognize details like phone numbers or addresses, and summarise. Users also get Image Wand, which lets users create images from drawings or texts in the Notes app.

iOS 18.2 Public Beta Rollout: What’s the Catch?

Users who have already been testing Apple Intelligence and opted in can use features like Writing Tools, ChatGPT integration, and Visual Intelligence immediately. However, there’s a secondary waitlist for early access to Genmoji‌, ‌Image Playground‌, and Image Wand.

Users need to request access to be added to the wait list for all three features individually. They will be notified when these features are available. Apple will be rolling out access to these new features gradually over the coming weeks.
