The latest report from Counterpoint Research reveals that the iPhone 15 was the top-selling smartphone globally in Q3 2024. It is the first iPhone with a USB-C port. The report further mentions that Apple and Samsung have dominated the charts for the most-selling phones. Here are the details.
Best Selling Phones Globally: Apple and Samsung Maintain Dominance
The iPhone 15 is the most popular choice among consumers, followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro. Apple has retained its top spot compared to the same quarter last year, where the iPhone 14, the 14 Pro Max, and the 14 Pro were in the same position.
Samsung has also solidified itself with the Galaxy A-Series phones. These mid-range phones, priced between Rs 20,000 and 35,000 (USD 235 – 415), have a massive reach among Android users. Samsung is also bringing its Galaxy AI features to select A-Series phones, helping customers experience premium functions at an affordable price.
For the first time, a Galaxy S-Series smartphone was among the most-selling global phones, as the Galaxy S24 base model has secured the 10th position. Xiaomi is also present in the top charts. Check out the list below:

Among the top 10 phones, five are from the premium category, and the other five are from premium and budget price ranges. Counterpoint Research adds that the easy availability of finance and EMI schemes is driving growth in the premium segment. Hence, customers are moving towards the upper segment to experience more premium features on their smartphones.
The 10 phones mentioned in the list accounted for 19% of the total smartphone sales globally in Q3 2024. As per previous reports, the global smartphone market is expected to grow in 2025 as customers upgrade to new phones with the emergence of AI features.
