MediaTek Dimensity 7400 & 6400 Announced: Boosted Gaming, AI & 5G for Budget Smartphones

Highlights
  • MediaTek introduced the Dimensity 7400 and the Dimensity 7400X chipsets, which succeeded the Dimensity 7300 and the 7300X chipsets.
  • The chipmaker has also detailed the recently introduced Dimensity 6400 SoC.

MediaTek has launched the new Dimensity 7400 and the 7400X chipsets for budget phones. The brand also detailed the Dimensity 6400 SoC, which powers the recently launched Realme P3x. The Dimensity 7400 chipsets succeed the Dimensity 7300 ones from last year. Here are all the details.

MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Series: Details

The Dimensity 7400 and Dimensity 7400X, meant for budget smartphones, are based on TSMC’s 4nm process and come with an octa-core structure. This includes four Arm Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.6GHz and four Arm Cortex-A55 cores operating at up to 2.0GHz. This is clubbed with the Mali-G615 MC2 GPU.

This setup is similar to its predecessors, except the clock speed for the Cortex A78 cores is slightly increased to 2.6GHz. The Dimensity 7300 and 7300X had a maximum clock speed of 2.5GHz.

The new chipsets are expected to offer enhanced efficiency with up to 36% reduced power consumption. Here’s a look at the key features:

  • The chipsets support MediaTek Advanced Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0 support and AI optimisations for improved gaming with reduced input lag and better power saving for increased gaming sessions.
  • MediaTek’s NPU 6.0 will offer 15% improved AI performance over the Dimensity 7300.
  • Imagiq 950 ISP (also seen in the Dimensity 7300) will provide enhanced AI camera features and low-light photography. There’s also support for Google’s Ultra HDR.
  • Tri-band Wi-Fi 6E support for faster connectivity and 5G R16 modem with 3CC carrier aggregation (3CC-CA).

There’s also support for up to 200MP cameras, UFS 3.1, Bluetooth 5.4, and more. The Dimensity 7400X also supports dual displays for flip phones.

MediaTek Dimensity 6400: Details

The Dimensity 6400 aims to provide 5G to affordable devices and has an octa-core setup (two Arm Cortex-A76 cores at 2.5GHz and six Arm Cortex-A55 cores up to 2.0GHz). There’s the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. It is based on a 6nm process.

The chipset supports up to 108MP cameras, true colour AMOLED displays, a 3GPP Release-16 compliant 5G modem for 5G speeds at 3.3 Gbps, MediaTek Bluetooth Wi-Fi HyperCoex Technology for reduced latency in gaming, and much more.

MediaTek’s Latest Chipsets: Availability Timeline Revealed

The MediaTek Dimensity 7400 and the Dimensity 7400X chipsets will be available with phones in Q1 2025. The Dimensity 6400’s availability has begun with the recent Realme P3x.
