HMD Global Taiwan today confirmed that it will be holding a launch event in the country on April 2nd to unveil the Nokia X71. At the same event, the company plans to formally launch the flagship Nokia 9 PureView in Taiwan.
First Nokia Phone With a Punch-Hole Display Launching Next Week
The Nokia X71 will be HMD Global’s very first smartphone to feature a punch-hole display. In addition to a punch-hole display, the smartphone is said to sport a 48MP triple-camera setup at the rear with ZEISS optics. The 48MP main sensor will be complemented by a secondary 120-degree super wide-angle snapper. No details regarding the third sensor are available currently.
According to rumors, the Nokia X71 will debut in global markets as the Nokia 8.1 Plus. Unlike the Nokia X71, however, the global variant is expected to have a dual-camera setup at the rear. Previous leaks have suggested the Nokia 8.1 Plus may feature a 6.22-inch Full HD+ resolution display. Going by the rumored name of the global variant of the smartphone, the Nokia 8.1 Plus will be a mid-range smartphone and is likely be a successor of sorts to the Nokia 8.1 launched in December last year. In China, the Nokia 8.1 was introduced as the X7 in October last year.
The Nokia 8.1 is powered by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 10nm octa-core processor under the hood. Since Qualcomm is yet to announce a newer Snapdragon 700-series smartphone, there is a strong possibility of the Nokia X71 and Nokia 8.1 Plus running on the same chipset. In terms of software, we can expect the Nokia X71 to ship with the latest Android 9.0 Pie operating system out of the box. Since the Nokia 8.1 was launched roughly two months after the launch of the Nokia X7, we can expect the global variant of the Nokia X71 to be made official before the end of the second quarter.
