Nothing OS 3.0 With Interactive Dot Animations Coming in September

Highlights
  • The Nothing OS 3.0 will come with a redesigned quick settings panel.
  • The company is also revamping the lock screen UI with the NothingOS 3.0.

Nothing will unveil the next iteration of its Android UI – the NothingOS 3.0 in September 2024. Nothing co-founder – Carl Pei took it to X (formerly Twitter) to share a glimpse of Nothing OS 3.0 lock screen UI and widgets. Have a look at the details.

Nothing OS 3.0 Lock Screen Overview

Nothing OS 3.0 will feature a revamped lock screen, revealed through a teaser image. The revamped lock screen will also come with enhanced functionalities. The lock screen default view showcases the data and date, followed by the time in the centre. In NothingOS 2.0, if a user opts for a single-line clock, the time is shown in the top left corner in the company’s signature dot matrix font.

It seems like Nothing will provide users with an option to opt for different font-styled clocks for the lock screen. The Nothing OS 3.0 will give users an option to put widgets on the lock screen, similar to Nothing OS 2.0 but this time, there will be two different settings – Clock+Widgets and Expanded Widget. The default clock, day, and date could be shown in small text if a user opts for expanded widgets.

Nothing OS 3.0 Interactive Dot Animations

The Nothing OS 3.0 will also feature interactive dot animations. Pei hasn’t shared details about the interactive dot animations but the interactive dot animations feature three layers – input image layer, live interaction layer, and final output layer.

The input layer contains pre-renders animations and static images in greyscale. The live interaction layer allows for mixing two inputs. And the output layer maps the resulting value to various parameters (such as scale, opacity, colour, and position offset).

The Nothing OS 3.0 will also feature a redesigned quick settings panel. It is also expected to offer AI capabilities. The Nothing OS 3.0 is expected to include a native gallery app as well. It is not clear if the Nothing OS 3.0 will be based on Android 14 or Android 15. More details are yet to be out and we shall expect them soon. So, stay tuned for further updates.
