Nothing’s Carl Pei recently published a video sharing his thoughts on artificial intelligence. The video showed us a glimpse of AI features that Nothing has developed so far. However, Pei said something that took the tech community by surprise.
In the video, while talking about AI features Pei mentioned ‘Expect this to be improved and gradually introduced, starting with Phone (3) next year‘.
This might mean two things:
- One, that the Nothing Phone (3) may debut next year. This means a departure from its usual yearly launch timeline. This is what 9to5Google believes.
- It may also mean that Nothing may launch Phone (3) this year, but will bring the AI features next year in the form of a software update. This is what some people on X believe.
So, Who Do We Believe?
If you ask us, we don’t really have a definitive answer. Either of the two possibilities might be true. There have been no certifications for the phone so far and even its model number is still unknown. The Nothing Phone (1) and Phone (2) started showing up on certifications in March 2022 and April 2023 respectively.
The Phone (1) and Phone (2) were launched in July 2022 and July 2023 respectively. Based on these, the Nothing Phone (3) was expected to hit shelves sometime in July this year. This means those looking forward to Nothing Phone (3) will have to wait a little longer than usual.
Nothing recently shared a teaser on its social media channels, and the co-founder – Akis Evangelidis- confirmed that it is a teaser for an upcoming phone. There were speculations that this could be the Nothing Phone (3).
The smartphone in the teaser, shared by Nothing, appears to be the CMF Phone (1) which was spotted on Bureau of Indian Standard certification a few weeks ago. Nothing itself confirmed the launch of the CMF Phone (1) recently on X.

The CMF Phone (1) is expected to be a budget segment device similar to CMF’s other products.
Nothing’s CMF Phone (1) could be the company’s first budget segment device and might have the codename Beedril. The codename of Nothing smartphones have been based on Pokemons and Beedril being the first generation Pokemon suggests that it’s the first phone in a new lineup. We can expect the company to share more about the upcoming smartphone, via teasers, in the coming days. So, stay tuned.
