NothingOS 3.0 has been officially announced by the company, alongside the launch of its new Nothing Ear (open) earbuds. The latest version will offer plenty of AI-powered features to its users with several improvements in performance, animations, and more. Let’s look at the new features and all the details of NothingOS 3.0.

NothingOS 3.0 Announced: What’s New?

The NothingOS 3.0 is based on the same DNA of Nothing’s material design and functionality-focused approach. Here are the top features:

New Quick Settings Panel

Nothing has given the quick settings panel a fresh coat of paint. It looks neater and the options are now easier to navigate, as showcased by the company during the announcement. The menus have a red accent in light mode to denote whether a setting is enabled or not

Users can adjust the number of settings in a row and rearrange them quickly. The size of the toggle can also be customised now.

Improved Animations

The company has introduced a new Dot Animation Engine, which will provide smoother animations in the user interface. Built-in apps will now use a dot matrix animation for a modern look. These visual effects will apply to fingerprint unlocking, charging animation, and other system settings. The default gallery app also gets new visuals based on the dot design.

Revamped Settings App

Nothing has decluttered the Settings app in NothingOS 3.0. The UI has been adjusted to make it easier for users to navigate through different settings. The menus are designed for better visibility, and some new visual elements have been added for frequently used options such as connected devices.

The font of the Settings app has also been slightly changed. The company says that the app now offers better readability to its users.

New Widgets

NothingOS 3.0 brings a handful of new widgets. These include a countdown, photo widget, step counter, screen timer, and stickers. Widgets can now also be linked across two devices to sync content.

AI Integration

Nothing has integrated AI in its latest OS. The user interface can now smartly rearrange apps into categories. The gallery app can also categorize images using AI making it easier for users to see similar images in folders. The company also announced that it is working on AI-powered upscaling which will increase the resolution of images making them sharper. This feature will be made available later.

NothingOS 3.0 has also received a performance overhaul with optimization. Transitions in the gallery app are now up 1.4x faster. The processing time of HDR and portrait effects has also been improved by up to 25%.

App Archiving

NothingOS 3.0 will include an option to archive apps. It’s a native feature in Android 15. It helps users remove apps that are not used frequently, but the important elements and app data get preserved. The feature will help manage storage better and reduce the number of installed apps on the phone.

NothingOS 3.0: Rollout Schedule, List of Eligible Devices

The beta rollout of NothingOS 3.0 will begin in October 2024. The stable version will start rolling out in December. As of now, the company has not officially released a list of eligible devices.

Considering that the Nothing Phone (1) is still eligible for one more Android update, we can assume that all the Nothing devices, including the Phone (1), Phone (2), the Phone (2a), the Phone (2a) Plus, and the CMF Phone 1 will receive the NothingOS 3.0 update based on Android 15. We will provide updates once the company confirms more details.
