Qualcomm has announced the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 mobile platform. This succeeds last year’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset and brings CPU and GPU performance improvements. The chipset also includes a prime core, which was missing from its predecessor. It also includes Gen AI support. Here’s a look at what’s new.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 4: Specs
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset is based on a 4nm process and has an octa-core Kryo CPU. But this time, it has a 1+3+4 structure, as opposed to the 4+4 structure seen on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.
The new SoC has a prime core clocked at 2.3GHz, 3 performance ones at 2.2GHz, and 4 efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. While the maximum clock speed is slightly lower than the 2.4GHz speeds of the 6 Gen 3 SoC, the new Kryo CPU is expected to deliver up to 11% performance upgrades. The chipset is said to offer a 29% increased GPU performance and a 12% increase in power saving.
GenAI support means we can expect several AI features coming to the phones with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. There are gaming features like Snapdragon Super Game resolution for 4K visuals, Adreno HDR Fast Blend for 2x faster rendering of graphics, and Adreno Frame Motion Engine for more realistic visuals and better frame rate while conserving battery life.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 comes with the Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP for enhanced photography, especially in low-light conditions, which is possible due to the Snapdragon Low-Light Vision (LLV). There’s also support for up to 200MP cameras.
The chipset also gets support for lossless wireless sound with Snapdragon Sound, Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System, and up to a 144Hz display with a Full HD+ screen resolution. It also supports up to 16GB LP-DDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ tech, Wi-FI 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and more.
Phones Coming With Snapdragon 6 Gen 4
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset will reach phones from brands like Realme, OPPO, and HONOR in the coming months. There’s still no word about which phone will get it first yet but we expect details on this soon.
