Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Tipped to Launch Early, Flagships Arriving in October

The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset was released in October last year, and many manufacturers have already released flagships with the chipset. Going by the same timeline, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 was expected to be unveiled this October. However, new rumours indicate that Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset will be announced in September, with devices arriving as early as October.

The Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro are said to be the first smartphones to be powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship platform.

Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Expected Launch Timeline

According to a claim made by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Qualcomm will announce the Snapdragon Elite 2 at the end of September, and the first smartphones featuring the new chip will launch in October.

As mentioned above, the Snapdragon 8 Elite was launched in October 2024, during Qualcomm’s Summit 2024 event in Maui. Most recently released Android flagship phones run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite platform. Examples include the OnePlus 13, Vivo X200 Ultra, and the Xiaomi 15. The Galaxy S25 also uses a customised version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Expected specifications

Previous leaks indicate the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will bring significant improvements over its predecessor. It’s expected to feature a base frequency of 4.4GHz – up from 4.32GHz – and incorporate second-generation Oryon CPU cores, boosting performance by up to 25 per cent. The chip is also likely to support both LPDDR5x and LPDDR6 RAM. GPU performance is also expected to go up by about 30 per cent.

According to another leak, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 reportedly scored 3.8 million points on AnTuTu.
