Vivo has launched a new Y-series smartphone in China. The company has quietly launched the Y78 5G as its latest mid-range smartphone offering. The new Vivo smartphone in the Y series sits below the Y78+ 5G, which was launched previously in China and some other markets. The Y78 5G features a MediaTek Dimensity SoC. It also features a dual-camera setup on the back.
The colourful phone has a polycarbonate body with a flat frame design. Vivo has launched the phone in three vibrant colours. The Y78 5G also arrives in three storage options. Let’s look at the Vivo Y78 5G price, specifications and other details ahead of the launch.
Vivo Y78 5G Price and Specifications
The Vivo Y78 5G has been launched with three storage options in China. The phone offers 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It is priced at CNY 1399 (Roughly Rs 16,600). It is also available in 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB storage options, but the pricing is under wraps. The device has been launched in Black, Jade Porcelain Blue and Phoenix Feather Gold colour options.
The Y78 5G features a MediaTek Dimensity 7020 SoC, a rebadged version of the Dimensity 930 SoC. It is an octa-core SoC based on a 6nm process and has a peak clock speed of 2.2GHz. The phone packs LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. There is support for storage expansion via a microSD card slot.
The phone packs a 5000mAh battery under the hood. It also offers support for 44W fast charging out of the box. In addition, the Y78 5G features a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual-band Wi-Fi support, etc.
On the back, there is a dual-camera setup. The phone features a 50MP primary camera sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. There is also a 2MP bokeh sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. For selfies, the Y78 5G has an 8MP front camera.
The handset features a 6.64-inch IPS LCD with a 19.9:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 2388×1080 pixels. It has a pixel density of 394PPI and a 91.06 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate. It also features a hole-punch cutout at the top for the front camera. For biometrics, there is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and support for AI face unlock.
The Y78 5G runs Android 13 out of the box and has a layer of Origin OS 3 on top. If launched globally, the phone will likely feature Funtouch OS 13 on top of Android. Unfortunately, there is no word from Vivo about the global launch of the Y78 5G at the time of writing this.
