Motorola debuted the Moto G6 (Review) series of smartphones at an event held in Brazil in April this year. The most expensive member of the G6 series, the Moto G6 Plus, was recently launched in India with an exorbitantly high price tag of Rs.22,499 (at least for its feature set).
So, does Lenovo-owned Motorola have anything exciting in the works? Well, we can now confirm that Motorola is currently working on the next-generation Moto G7 series smartphones and it will be launching them sometime next year.
Moto G7, G7 Plus: Launch Date Next Year
While we have not managed to get our hands on renders of the upcoming Moto G series smartphones just yet, an image we’ve obtained (as you can see below) does confirm that the next-generation Moto G series devices will carry the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus monikers.
Unlike the Moto G6 series, the Moto G7 series will comprise of just two models. There will be no Moto G7 Play in 2019. This is not very surprising, given how the Moto G6 Play and Moto E5 Plus are nearly identical in terms of hardware, with no clear distinguishing feature. Since the Moto G6 series was released in April this year, we can expect the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Play smartphones to be released by the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second quarter next year.
Moto G7, G7 Plus: Expected Specifications, Features
When it comes to hardware specifications, we currently have absolutely no information regarding the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus. However, we do expect Motorola to equip both smartphones with more powerful chipsets compared to the current Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus. The Moto G7 could be powered by a Snapdragon 4xx or a Snapdragon 63X series processor, while the Moto G7 Plus is likely to run on a Snapdragon 636 or Snapdragon 670 processor under the hood. In the memory department, the Moto G7 will likely be offered with up to 4GB of RAM, while the Moto G7 Plus might feature 6GB of RAM as standard.
Another area where the Moto G7 duo could be very different from the current Moto G6 series is design. Motorola introduced an all-new design this year for both its E and G series, so we can expect the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus to come with a refreshed design featuring a slightly more impressive screen-to-body ratio compared to their predecessors. And seeing how Motorola recently embraced the notch with the Motorola One Power and Motorola One smartphones, we won’t be surprised to see the Moto G7 smartphones arrive with a notch next year.
Moto G7, G7 Plus: Expected Price in India
The Moto G6 was launched in India in June this year at a starting price of Rs. 13,999 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant. On the other hand, the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant of the smartphone was launched in India at Rs. 15,999. The Moto G6 Plus, as we mentioned above, was released in India recently for Rs. 22,499.
Going by the pricing of the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus smartphones in India, we can expect the Moto G7 to debut at somewhere around Rs.15,000, while the Moto G7 Plus could be priced around Rs. 20,000 in India.
