Earlier this week, Motorola took covers off two new ‘Edge’ series handsets — the Motorola Edge and the Motorola Edge Plus (henceforth referred to as the Edge+). These 5G capable devices mark Motorola’s re-entry into the mainstream category of mid-range and flagship handsets.

Even as the US continues to reel under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Motorola announced that it would start selling the Motorola Edge+ beginning May 14 via Verizon. The Motorola Edge, on the other hand, is expected to go on sale sometime after that.

For a long time, there has been a lot of chatter over the possibility of Motorola launching both these handsets in India. Motorola India, however, chose to remain silent and did not, until recently, talk about an India-launch for the Edge series.

Earlier today, an official confirmation of the launch of the Motorola Edge Plus came in the form of a tweet by Motorola India Country Head, Prashant Mani.

We have embedded the tweet below.

As evident from the tweet above, Prashant has stopped short of revealing a possible launch date for the Motorola Edge+. Also important to note is that he does not talk about the standard Motorola Edge model.

We already know that the Motorola Edge+ is priced at $999 in the USA. This translates to around Rs 76,400 (excluding import duties and taxes) here in India. Motorola will likely price the device at around the Rs 80k -85K mark once it launches in the country.

However, at that price, it will need to battle it out against some of the best flagships currently on sale. The newly launched OnePlus 8 series also pose a serious threat to the Motorola Edge+’s prospects for India.

Key features of the Motorola Edge+ include its large 6.7-inch Endless Edge OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, and the 12GB (LPDDR5) RAM+256GB storage configuration. The body of the Motorola Edge+ is made of 6000 series aluminum, and the display gets Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for durability and scratch resistance. The phone is splash resistant as well.

The Motorola Edge+ gets a 5000mAh battery with support for 18W wired fast charging and 15W wireless fast charging.

The camera setup on the Motorola Edge+ includes a 108MP primary sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle secondary camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera. At the front, the phone gets a single 25MP camera for selfies and video calling.

Although the Motorola India has confirmed that the Edge+ is India-bound, it is only natural that the launch of the device will almost certainly happen once the pan-India lockdown is lifted.
