The Moto G-series from Motorola has been one of the most successful smartphones in India. Every year, a slightly improved version is launched and it sells like hot cakes. The Moto G6 is the latest from the company and it brings some much needed improvements over last years model. The phones from Motorola are well built and offer good value for money.
However, in 2018, the phone has plenty of competition from other brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, and so on. Chinese smartphone manufacturers have been growing in popularity and they offer similar performing devices at better pricing. Thus, to increase sales and adoption, Motorola has slashed the price of the Moto G6 in India.
Moto G6 Price Cut in India
Motorola launched the Moto G6 in June this year and it has been available for purchase ever since. The base variant of the smartphone was priced at INR 13,999, whereas the top variant was sold at INR 15,999. To improve its chances against competitors, Motorola has now cut the prices of the Moto G6 variants by INR 2,000.
According to a report by 91Mobiles, the new pricing for the Moto G6 base variant is INR 11,999. This version comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The top variant, which has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, is now priced at INR 13,999. The new pricing is currently only available when you purchase the phone from an offline retail store. As of now, the online pricing of the phone remains unchanged. We checked on Amazon India and the phones are still being sold without the price cut. It is possible that the changes might take a while to reflect online.
The Moto G6 is a decent mid-range smartphone that runs stock Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. It features a 5.7-inch LCD display that has a taller 18:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. There is no notch at the top, which is nice, and the phone has a glass and aluminium body. This gives it a premium look and feel. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor and has up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of in-built storage. There’s a dual-rear camera setup at the back with a primary 12MP sensor coupled with a 5MP depth unit. A 16MP sensor takes care of selfies, assisted by an LED flash for those late night shots. Keeping the lights on, is a 3,000mAh battery that supports TurboPower fast charging. The fingerprint sensor is still at the front of the phone and you can have the phone in four color options – Indigo Black, Fine Gold, Silver, and Sterling Blue.
Motorola G6 vs Competition
While the Motorola G6 is a very good mid-range smartphone, it has been ousted by several phones from brands such as Xiaomi and Oppo. For example, for the same price as the Moto G6, you could have the Oppo Realme 2 Pro. This device is powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset, which is a much more capable processor when compared to the one found on the Moto G6.
Apart from the Realme 2 Pro, the Moto G6 also faces tough competition from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi 6, and the upcoming Redmi Note 6 Pro. Motorola has to really up its game if it wants to stay relevant in the mid-range smartphone market and release phones such as the Motorola One Power.
