Although, the Motorola Z series is a flagship line of phones, this year’s Moto Z3 was a far cry from high-end smartphones because it was fuelled by the Snapdragon 835 SoC, instead of the Snapdragon 845 chipset. However, Motorola is apparently going to raise the bar next year with its Moto Z4. Along with that, the company is also going to release the mid-range Moto G7 smartphone in 2019.

Motorola Is Not Coming Slow This Time

As far as rumors are concerned, the flagship Moto Z4 would not skimp on anything that you would expect from a 2019 flagship device. The phone will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 8150 chipset, that Qualcomm is expected to announce next month. The Snapdragon 8150 SoC would succeed the Snapdragon 845 chipset and it will be made using the 7nm process, just like the Huawei’s Kirin 980 and Apple’s A12 Bionic.

The phone is rumored to come with 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal memory. The memory specifications are not all that encouraging, given that even most of this year’s flagship smartphones come with at least 256GB of onboard memory.

Memory specifications aside, the Moto Z4 series is shaping up to be a pretty feature-packed smartphone. The phone will become 5G-ready when the 5G Moto Mod is snapped on. This means that the phone might also feature the Snapdragon X50 modem. Even this year’s Moto Z3 would get 5G with the 5G Moto Mod. Apparently, Motorola is also working on software to manage an In-display fingerprint scanner, so we might see that too in the upcoming smartphone. Apart from that, the phone will presumably run Android 9 Pie. As per reports, the Moto Z4, which is internally codenamed ‘Odin’, is in the early stages of development right now. It might be released in North America first, with Verizon being the official carrier. However, it might not be Verizon exclusive and an unlocked version will probably launch too.

Moto G7

Motorola’s mid-rangers are usually more popular than its flagship phones because they provide great value for money. The next G-series smartphone, the Moto G7 will be reportedly be fuelled by the Snapdragon 660 SoC, and it will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. For a mid-ranger, those specs are pretty good but on the flip side, the alleged battery capacity of the phone seems inadequate. The phone is reported to come with 2820mAh battery, which is even smaller than its predecessor’s battery. On the other hand, the Moto G7 Plus is rumored to come with a 6.4-inch display, a 3500mAh battery, and a Qualcomm 7-series chipset. Most rumors are hinting at Snapdragon 710 SoC, which means the Moto G7 Plus would provide much better performance than the standard Moto G7. As for aesthetics, the Moto G7 will reportedly have a notched display.

This year was probably not Motorola’s best. The company had to cancel the Moto X5 and the Moto Z3 couldn’t measure up to other flagship devices this year because of its processor. Although, it seems that the company is pouring all its resources into the Moto Z4, it remains to be seen if that would be enough to outshine competing devices.
