These launches were enough to affect the Indian smartphone market and our top smartphone rankings. How? That is what we tell you in the May edition of MSP Tech Insights. It’s our monthly report that reveals interesting insights about the popularity of different smartphones, and consequently, brands.
The data has been collected from 15 million shoppers that visited our platform last month to make gadget purchase decisions. So without further ado, let’s check out the MySmartPrice Tech Insights report for May 2023.
OnePlus is the Most Popular Smartphone Brand in May 2023
OnePlus led the Indian smartphone market in May 2023 with a popularity rate of 38.30%. Vivo, which was on top last month, claimed second position with an 18.70% popularity rate. Samsung and Realme had a less than 1% difference in popularity rate. Check out the ranking below.

Most Popular Mobile Phones in May 2023
1. OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite 5G
OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite 5G has retained its number one position and is on its way to becoming the most popular device under Rs 20,000. It is one of the most affordable phones from the company in India and offers quite impressive specs for under Rs 20,000. It offers a 120Hz LCD display, a Snapdragon 695 chipset, 67W SuperVOOC charging and much more. Its Pastel Lime colour variant has also been the talk of the town.

2. Vivo X90
The Vivo T2, which was in second position in April, has been replaced by its elder sibling Vivo X90 5G. The device offers one of the best camera technologies available on a smartphone. It has a 50MP Sony IMX866 main camera on the back with an f/1.75 aperture and support for optical image stabilisation. The main sensor is accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP portrait camera, both of which feature a Sony IMX663 sensor. The cameras have been tuned with ZEISS technology. You get all of this at a price of Rs 59,999.
3. Vivo T2X
The Vivo T2x gained massive interest in May and has escalated from the number five to the number three position. The T2x offers a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset at Rs 12,999. It is the cheapest smartphone to offer this processor and 5G support. It seems that Vivo’s strategy for the T series has been working well as both the Vivo T2 series devices are among the top five searched phones on the MySmartPrice platform.
4. OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G
Although launched in April 2022, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite is still able to be among the top five popular smartphones on our list. Despite its successor being available in the market, users are still looking for the Nord CE 2 Lite. This shows the brand value of the OnePlus and how much users are willing to invest in the brand. They are looking for more affordable options from the company.

5. Vivo T2
It’s worth talking about how Vivo has managed to make its online presence. 3 out of the top 5 devices come from the house of Vivo, out of which, two are from the T2 series. Although launched as a competitor to the OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite at Rs 1,000 cheaper, it has managed to make its online presence well. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 SoC along with an AMOLED display panel.
6. Samsung Galaxy M14
Launched in April, the Samsung Galaxy M14 slowly picked the pace to become one of the most popular smartphones on our platform. It is a budget offering available for under Rs 15,000. Although the device has decent specs, the brand value of Samsung is enough to convince users to explore more about this device.
7. Realme C55
The Realme C55’s popularity has been affected by the latest launches in the budget segment. The Realme C series devices are a major hit in the offline market and C53 being the most popular device on our platform in 2022 is proof of that. The C55 was the first Android device to adapt to iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island; the company calls it Mini Capsule. It is available for Rs 10,999.

8. Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G
The Redmi Note 12 Pro is one of the most popular smartphones from the house Xiaomi and sits in the middle of the Redmi Note 12 lineup. The device is a new entrant in our top 10 most popular smartphones list. At Rs 21,999, the phone offers a 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera, a 120Hz AMOLED display, a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 SoC, 67W fast charging and much more.
9. OnePlus 11R
OnePlus 11R, an India-exclusive device, has moved up to ninth position this month. The phone has a lot to offer for just under Rs 40,000. Taking the design language from its elder sibling, the OnePlus 11, the 11R offers flagship specs including the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor, 100W charging and much more.
10. Realme 10 Pro Plus
Due to the launch of its successor, the Realme 10 Pro Plus has moved down from number 8 to number 10. Launched in December 2022, it brought a curved display to the mid-segment, a feature that was earlier limited to premium devices. At Rs 24,999, the Realme 10 Pro Plus features a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 SoC, 108MP camera setup, and 67W charging among others. Now that the Realme 11 Pro series has launched in India, we expect the 10 Pro Plus to be out of the list by next month or so.

Top 5 Upcoming Smartphones in India
1. Apple iPhone 15
Apple iPhone 15 has retained its number one position in our upcoming smartphones list. It is one of the most anticipated devices of 2023 and is expected to launch in September. Apple WWDC 2023, which recently happened, could be one of the reasons why users are excited about the device. As for the specifications, the brand is planning to add iPhone 14 Pro models Dynamic Island to the non-Pro iPhone 15 models.
2. Realme 11 Pro Plus
Although the Realme 11 Pro series has gone official now, the higher model, Pro Plus was one of the most popular devices in May. It offers a unique design language along with a 200MP ISOCELL HP3 sensor and 100W fast charging. The device retails for under Rs 30,000, a segment where we are witnessing a lot of competition lately.
3. Nothing Phone 2
With the recent leaks and announcements, the Nothing Phone (2) has gained one more ranking and climbed up to the third position. The device is confirmed to launch next month in India and in global markets. The recent render leak about the device, although called fake by Carl Pei, reveals the device will have very few changes compared to the Phone (1). It will retain its unique transparent design and glyph lightning.
4. OnePlus Nord 3 5G
The other devices’ hype has dropped the OnePlus Nord 3 5G from number two to number four position. OnePlus is yet to confirm the device launch in India but rumours for it have been surfacing for a long time now. The OnePlus Nord 3 5G will reportedly feature a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, a 120Hz AMOLED display, and 80W fast charging support.
5. Redmi Note 13 Pro Max 5G
Along with Realme 11 Pro Plus, the Redmi Note 13 Pro Max is also one of the most popular upcoming smartphones. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note number lineup has worked really well in India. The company launched its Redmi Note 12 Series in India back in January and since then it has been unveiling more devices under the lineup. However, at the moment, nothing has been revealed about the lineup.

Although May was not as happening a month compared to April, the smartphone popularity rankings were affected a lot due to launches in April. OnePlus has been catching up with the market at a fast pace, all thanks to its affordable Nord series. It would be interesting to see what June brings to the table for users.
