Once considered a major player in the feature phone segment, HMD Global-backed Nokia is renewing its efforts to once again compete in the genre after releasing new Android smartphones. The old Finnish smartphone manufacturer has debuted the Nokia 106 (2018) which is sort of a reboot of the original Nokia 106 that the company launched in its boom days back in 2013. Although, the new handset is a remake of the original Nokia 106, it comes with nice new touches which will be appreciated by buyers.

Its body is tough polycarbonate and the new contoured design makes it much more ergonomic in the hands. At the front, there’s a keypad beneath the TFT screen and it’s not a QWERTY version. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack, Micro-USB port for charging, and LED Flashlight as well. Nokia 106 is a dual SIM handset that has a 1.8-inch QQVGA (160×120 pixels) TFT display coupled with an 800mAh battery. Under the hood, the handset houses a MediaTek MT6261D SoC, coupled with 4MB of RAM and an equal amount of storage.

The Nokia 106 (2018) also comes with a bunch of preloaded games like Nitro Racing, Danger Dash, and Tetris and of course, the classic Snake. The handset can last up to 21 days on standby or 15 hours of continuous talk time as claimed by the company. It can store 2,000 contacts and 500 text messages at a given time which will help users keep in touch with their business network, friends and family.

As for pricing and availability, the Nokia 106 (2018) is set at RUB 1,590 (roughly INR 1,700) and comes in Russia. Availability details for other countries including India is not yet declared by the company.

In related news, the company recently announced the iconic Nokia 8110 4G banana-shaped phone in India with a price tag of INR 5,999. The Nokia 106 (2018) is aimed at pure feature phone users and will get competition from Jio Phone and the recently released Jio Phone 2 from Indian telecom major Reliance Jio.
