The Nokia 5.1 Plus is the second smartphone from Nokia to feature a notch. HMD Global announced this alongside the Nokia 6.1 Plus, which is already available for purchase in the country.
Both these phones are mid-range devices, the Nokia 5.1 Plus being the cheaper option. It will go on sale towards the end of this month, and an official announcement is coming on September 24, according to a teaser. The Nokia 6.1 Plus was a huge success for the company in India. Therefore, here’s why we think that even the Nokia 5.1 Plus will be a success.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Premium Design
Just like its bigger brother, the Nokia 5.1 Plus comes with a premium looking glass unibody design. It looks really good and comes with a notch at the front and slim bezels. The frame of the device is made from polycarbonate, but that’s okay. You will not see such a premium design in this price range from other manufacturers. A fingerprint sensor is available at the back of the phone.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Good Display
The Nokia 5.1 Plus also comes with a good display, for a budget smartphone. It gets a 5.86-inch IPS LCD panel with an HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The phone looks similar to the Nokia 6.1 Plus, however, the notch is wider. It’s not the best display out there but is good enough for the price.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Decent Cameras
The phone also comes with a decent set of rear cameras. Yes, you do get dual-rear cameras, like most mid-range budget smartphones of 2018. The main sensor on this is a 13MP unit, and the secondary is a 5MP depth sensor. You get all sorts of AI assistance, Nokia’s bothie option, and it can shoot 1080p videos. On the front, you get an 8MP sensor for shooting selfies.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Android One
One of the best features of this phone is that it is part of the Android One program. This means that you get stock Android software, which is fast, smooth, and doesn’t have any bloatware. It also guarantees faster security updates, and software updates, as and when Google releases them.
Out of the box, the Nokia 5.1 Plus will run on Android 8.1 Oreo, but it will soon receive an update to Android 9.0 Pie.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Pricing
Apart from being an Android One smartphone, this phone will also be well priced. Although we do not know the official pricing for the phone, we expect the base variant to start around Rs. 11,000. This is for the version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
The 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM variant is expected to cost around Rs. 13,000. This is similar to other best-sellers in this price range. For example, it is priced similar to the new Redmi 6 Pro from Xiaomi, which also starts at Rs. 11,000.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: What else we know
As this is a mid-range smartphone, it gets some decent mid-range hardware. It is not powered by a Snapdragon processor, like some of its competitors, but that’s not really a problem. One of the main advantages, is that the phone runs stock Android.
It is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 processor, which isn’t bad at all. This is an octa-core chipset that’s clocked at 2.0GHz. The phone will come with a maximum of 4GB RAM, and up to 64GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot is available, in case you want to add more storage. The phone also features a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, and a decent 3060mAh battery.
