HMD Global has introduced a new smartphone in the budget segment known as Nokia 5.4. The latest offering from HMD Global comes with some subtle design language along with some average specifications. The handset features an HD+ display along with Snapdragon 662 processor, quad rear cameras, and more. The phone comes with a starting price of Rs 13,999. With this, it is all set to give a stiff competition to the likes of Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung and more. The Nokia 5.4 India price starts at Rs 13,999 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB of internal storage. The 6GB RAM + 64GB of storage option comes with a price tag of Rs 15,499. The Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with a price tag of Rs 12,999 for 4GB RAM + 64GB option, Rs 13,999 for 4GB RAM + 128GB of internal storage, and Rs 16,999 for 6GB + 128GB model. The Realme Narzo 20 Pro price in India starts at Rs 14,999 for 6GB RAM + 128GB of internal storage, while the 8GB RAM + 128GB model comes with a price tag of Rs 16,999. That said, the base model of Redmi Note 9 Pro is cheaper than the newly-launched Nokia 5.4. Also, you get more storage with a middle variant of Redmi Note 9 Pro and more power with the top variant of the Narzo 20 Pro smartphone.

Coming to the design, the Nokia 5.4 offers a good design language, which is quite unique. The handset offers a Nordic design that looks classy along with a circular camera module that adds some premium factor to it. The front panel offers a single punch-hole cutout for a selfie camera. The Redmi Note 9 Pro is also a great-looking smartphone as it offers a sturdy design language. There is a circular camera module at the rear panel and you also get a dual-tone finish, which looks different from the rest of the smartphones. The front panel also offers a punch-hole design.


Coming to the Realme Narzo 20 Pro also comes with an interesting design at the back panel. The company calls it a Victory design and it sure looks flashy. There is a camera module aligned vertically, while the punch-hole design is at the front to house the selfie camera.

In terms of display, the Nokia 5.4 features a 6.39-inch HD+ screen with 1600 x 720 pixel resolution. The Redmi Note 9 Pro offers a 6.67-inch Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. Moving on, the Realme Narzo 20 Pro packs a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. The handset also comes with a 90Hz screen refresh rate, which makes it a clear winner in this round.

In terms of performance, the Nokia 5.4 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor along with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Redmi Note 9 Pro comes loaded with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor along with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. The Realme Narzo 20 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G95 processor.

The handset features up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. That said, the real competition is between the Redmi Note 9 and Realme Narzo 20 Pro as both the handset offer some powerful chipset. The Nokia 5.4 also feature a good chipset that is useful for completing daily tasks but you cannot expect it to deliver lag-free performance when it comes with multi-tasking or heavy-duty tasks.

The Nokia 5.4 packs a quad-camera setup with a combination of 48MP primary camera and a 5MP ultrawide sensor. The other two 2MP sensors are used for depth and macro. For the selfies and video-calling, the smartphone features a 16MP camera that has an f/2.0 aperture. The Redmi Note 9 Pro also feature a quad-camera setup with 48MP primary lens, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP macro shooter, and 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there is a 16MP shooter for selfies and video calling.

The Narzo 20 Pro is equipped with a quad-camera system with a 48MP primary lens with f/1.8 aperture, 8MP 119° ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.3 aperture, a 2MP macro lens with f/2.4 aperture, and a 2MP black and white portrait lens with f/2.4 aperture. On the front, you get a 16MP selfie camera with f/2.1 aperture, Sony IMX471 sensor. That said, all the three smartphones offer an almost similar type of sensors both for the front and the rear.

Similarly, the Realme Narzo 20 Pro offers 4,500mAh battery and offers a whopping 65W SuperDart Charge support. That said, Realme Narzo 20 Pro clearly wins this round as it has the highest fast charging speed available in this price segment. However, it is sad to see that HMD Global has not included any fast charging support for its latest Nokia 5.4 smartphone.

The Nokia 5.4 looks a bit expensive when compared to the likes of the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Realme Narzo 20 Pro. The handset offers an HD+ display, while the other two offers higher screen resolutions (Narzo 20 Pro has a higher refresh rate as well). The phone also comes with an underpowered chipset when compared to the Snapdragon 720G and Helio G95. Furthermore, there is no support for fast charging, which is one of the biggest negative points of the device.
