Nokia 6.1 Plus and 5.1 Plus to Get New 4GB and 6GB RAM Variants in India: Price, Features

In a bid to trump other smartphone brands in India, HMD Global has been bold when it comes to offering affordable phones and also slashing their prices time and again. In its latest move, the company is reportedly going to introduce new variants of its successful Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nokia 5.1 Plus in India. These new variants will be geared with higher RAM and storage than the previous ones.

HMD Global could launch these phones in India in the coming weeks. A report by NokiaPowerUser suggests that the expected price in India for these new variants could be under 18K. Precisely, the Nokia 6.1 Plus with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage could be priced at INR 17,499 while the Nokia 5.1 Plus with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage may debut at INR 12,499 and its 6GB RAM model could be introduced at INR 13,999.

As we mentioned above, the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus are already successful phones by the brand in India. Now, by introducing higher RAM and storage variants, the company wants to cash the buyers who wished to get these phones with improved specs. For now, we only know that the company will be overhauling the RAM and storage specs while the other specs such as SoC, camera, and battery shall remain the same.

Concerning the price of the existing variants of both the phones in India, the Nokia 6.1 Plus debuted at INR 15,999 for the 4GB RAM+64GB Storage variant. The Nokia 5.1 Plus is currently available at INR 9,999 on Flipkart while it was launched at INR 10,999 in a single variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

To recall, the Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with a 5.8-inch FHD+ notched display and is powered by a Snapdragon 636 processor. The phone has a 16MP+5MP dual rear cameras and a 16MP selfie shooter on the front. A 3,060 mAh battery backs the devices. On the other hand, the Nokia 5.1 Plus packs a 5.86-inch HD+ notched display. A MediaTek Helio P60 SoC powers it and there is a 13MP+5MP dual camera on the rear and an 8MP front camera. A 3,060mAh battery backs the phone with USB Type-C charging.

Recently, the Nokia 6.1 Plus has started receiving a new software update geared with January 2019 Android security patch. The latest update is being rolled out in batches in India. The update also adds a Pro Camera Mode in the camera app, and users also get a hide the notch option that enables them to get rid of the notch whenever they want the full-screen space. The latest update is 60.9MB in size, and its availability can be checked manually by the users by heading to the Settings menu.
