The Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone in India has finally received the Android Pie update. The update brings with it a few new features, the latest Android security patch, and is packed into an OTA update file size of 1394MB.

The Nokia X6 or Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone was launched sometime in July this year. The device features decent hardware and is geared towards the mid-range smartphone market segment. When it launched, the smartphone came out of the box with Android Oreo 8.1. However, it was speculated that in a short while the device would be upgraded to the latest version of Android; Android Pie 9.0. At the beginning of October, HMD Global began allowing its Nokia 6.1 Plus users to test out Android Pie at its beta stage. This could only mean one thing, that the stable Android Pie update was just around the corner. Just a day or two ago, the Nokia 6 began receiving the update and now the Android Pie update has started rolling out to the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

HDM Global has delivered well on its promise of updating its Nokia smartphones. In all possibility, the OTA update will begin rolling out in batches,for the Nokia 6.1 Plus being the smartphone that is next in line to receive the Android update. This means some users may actually receive it before others. However, all Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone users will receive the Android Pie update. Juho Sarvika, the Chief Product Officer, HMD Global took to Twitter to reveal this amazing news. The tweet also includes a short video which serves as a teaser for the new features which Android Pie will bring to the Nokia 6.1 Plus.


The update is available as an OTA update and is packed into a file size of 1394MB. This is over 1GB so make sure when you’re updating the device that you’re connected via Wi-Fi. So, what new features do this update bring? Well, according to the changelog, it adds new system navigation, settings menu and notifications. In addition to this, the update will definitely improve battery life as the software is optimized for adaptive battery power prioritization of the user’s most commonly used apps and games. Another feature which users will be happy about is the adaptive and optimized brightness levels. Predictive Application Actions has also been brought to the device by the Android Pie update. Last but definitely not the least, the device will receive the October 2018 Android security patch.

Nokia 6.1 Plus Smartphone Packs Quite A Punch

The Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone sports a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. Like most 2018 smartphones, the Nokia 6.1 Plus has a notched display. At the heart of the device lies the octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC. Paired with this is either 4GB/6GB RAM and either 32GB/64GB internal storage.

In the camera department, the Nokia 6.1 Plus boasts of a dual-rear facing camera setup of 16MP + 5MP and a single selfie camera of 16MP. The device supports HDR and video recording at 1080p at 30fps. Unfortunately, this smartphone doesn’t have an in-display fingerprint sensor but rather one which is mounted at the back. To ensure that the device gets the juice it needs, the company has equipped it with a 3060mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0. All in all, the Nokia 6.1 Plus with Android Pie should meet one’s needs just fine!
