Nokia 8.1 aka Phoenix Official Renders, Promotional Images Leaked, May Launch in India on December 6

A new leak has confirmed the Nokia 8.1 will be the global variant of the Nokia X7 that was launched in China a few weeks back.

Nokia 8.1 (X7)

Nokia India recently teased a new smartphone featuring a notched display. The smartphone is expected to be the global variant of the Nokia X7 that was launched in China last month. Several renders and promotional images of the upcoming Nokia smartphone have now been leaked online, confirming that the global variant of the Nokia X7 will indeed be marketed as the Nokia 8.1. The Nokia 8.1 will be making its official debut at an event in Dubai on December 05. It is expected to be launched in India a day later, i.e. December 06.

Nokia 8.1 Renders, Promotional Images Confirm Key Features, Specifications

The leaked renders of the upcoming Nokia 8.1 confirm that the device is codenamed “Phoenix” and happens to be the global variant of the China-only Nokia X7. Along with the renders of the smartphone, several promotional images have also surfaced online, confirming its key features and specifications. Needless to say, the Nokia 8.1 will be identical to the Nokia X7 both in terms of design as well as hardware specifications.

In terms of design, the Nokia 8.1 will feature a 2.5D curved glass back panel with silver accents around the rear cameras, fingerprint sensor, and the Series 6000 aluminum frame. The smartphone sports an edge-to-edge PureDisplay measuring 6.18-inches diagonally with 1080 x 2246 pixels Full HD+ resolution and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. If a recent rumor is to be believed, the Nokia 8.1 is the last Nokia-branded smartphone to feature a notched display.

The Nokia 8.1 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 10nm octa-core processor clocked at up to 2.2 GHz with an Adreno 616 GPU. Thanks to the powerful Kryo 360 cores and a 10nm FinFET fabrication process, the Snapdragon 710 offers very impressive performance as well as high power efficiency when compared to other mid-range mobile SoCs currently available. In the memory department, Nokia 8.1 will be available in 4GB RAM + 64GB and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage configurations. Users can choose to expand the storage further by up to 400GB, although it is expected to come with Hybrid Dual-SIM slots and not a triple-slot configuration with a dedicated microSD card slot.

In the camera department, Nokia 8.1 will come equipped with a 12MP + 13MP dual-camera setup at the rear with ZEISS optics. The primary 12MP IMX363 sensor boasts large 1.4um pixel size, Dual Pixel PDAF, and optical image stabilization, and is coupled with an f/1.8 aperture. For selfies, the Nokia 8.1 will have a 20MP selfie snapper on the front with AI Beauty and 4-in-1 pixel technology to achieve a large 1.8um pixel size. In terms of connectivity features, the Nokia 8.1 will support Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, USB Type-C port, and Dual 4G VoLTE. Fueling the handset will be a 3500mAh battery with 18W fast charging. On the software front, Nokia 8.1 will be running on the latest Android 9.0 Pie operating system out of the box.

Nokia 8.1 Expected to Launch in India on December 6

Earlier this week, HMD Global sent out invites for a launch event in New Delhi on December 06. The Finnish company is expected to launch the Nokia 7.1 in India at the event. While it has not been officially confirmed yet, there is a chance that HMD Global may launch the Nokia 8.1 alongside Nokia 7.1 at the same event. A recent report had claimed the Nokia 8.1 could be priced at INR 23,999 in India. The smartphone will take on devices like the POCO F1 (review), Vivo V11 Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018).
