Earlier this week, we told you that HMD Global had started sending out invites for an event on December 6. However, the company has now changed this date to December 10. We were expecting HMD Global to launch the Nokia 7.1 during the event. However, the company went ahead and launched this device earlier today. Therefore, the new event planned for December 10, should see another new Nokia device announced. It is very likely that Nokia will release the Nokia 8.1 in India. The Nokia 8.1 is the global variant of the Nokia X7 (China).

Nokia 8.1 Launch in India on December 10
HMD Global has been using the Nokia India Twitter handle to tease a new phone with a notch. The company has been using the hashtag ‘Expect more’ talking about the display of the phone. Nokia is definitely talking about the Nokia 8.1 here, as this phone has a larger 6.18-inch display. Even the latest Nokia 7.1 has a 5.84-inch display and that doesn’t let the user expect more.
Below is the invite that the company is sending out to the media in India. Once again, the #expectmore hashtag is used here. The event will take place on December 10 in New Delhi. Nokia is also holding an event in Dubai on December 5, where it is expected to announce the Nokia 8.1.
The Nokia 8.1 is a mid-range smartphone and is expected to be priced around INR 23,999, which is pretty good. The phone will compete with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy A7, Xiaomi’s Pocophone F1, and several other mid-rangers. Just yesterday, some renders and promotional material for the Nokia 8.1 were leaked online. The leaked renders showed us what the phone looks like.
Nokia 8.1 Features and Specs
As we mentioned earlier, the Nokia 8.1 is basically the global variant of the Nokia X7. Therefore, we already know all about the phone, including its specifications and appearance. Nokia will not be surprising anyone at this event.
The phone has a glass back and uses Series 6000 aluminum for the frame. The back also has a dual camera setup and a fingerprint scanner with silver accents on the edges. On the front, you get a 6.18-inch FHD+ display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the Snapdragon 710 processor, which is a 10nm chipset that bridges the gap between the 600 and 800 series chipsets.
The SD 710 chipset is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot is available in case you want to add more storage. The phone gets a Hybrid Dual-SIM slot for this purpose. As for the optics, the phone has a Zeiss optics dual-rear camera setup. There’s a primary 12MP sensor, which is paired with a secondary 13MP unit. The primary sensor gets OIS, Dual Pixel PDAF and has an f/1.8 aperture. At the front, there’s a 20MP sensor for capturing selfies. A 3500mAh battery is available with support for 18W fast charging. The phone will come with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, as the phone is part of the Android One program.
On the other hand, the Nokia 7.1 that was launched earlier today, has a less powerful Snapdragon 636 chipset, maximum of 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, less impressive dual-rear camera setup, and a smaller 3060mAh battery. The Nokia 7.1 is priced at INR 19,999 in India and will be available for purchase on December 7 via online retailers and official Nokia store.
