Multiple rumors so far have pointed out that the upcoming flagship device from HMD Global, Nokia 9 PureView, will be underpinned by the Snapdragon 845 chipset. This is only fitting, as most high-end 2018 Android devices are fueled by the Snapdragon 845 SoC. However, so far, it was only a hunch, but now some data gleaned from the International OTA update server has confirmed the presence of Qualcomm’s chipset.

Snapdragon 845 It is

The metadata in the OTA update for the next HMD Global flagship has revealed that indeed Snapdragon 845 SoC will power the Nokia 9 PureView. sdm845 has been mentioned quite a few times, in the build and pre-devices instances. This pretty much confirms that the phone will be underpinned by the Snapdragon 845 chipset. The word “user” has also been found in the post and pre-builds, which indicates that the phone is ready for retail production. The phone is apparently on the December security patch bearing the build number 00WW_4_110.

Previously, the metadata from the Chinese OTA update server had revealed that the Nokia 9 PureView is codenamed “Olympic” and it will run Android 9 Pie out of the gate. Now, OEMs do not choose codenames arbitrarily. The symbol for Olympic has five rings, and the Nokia 9 PureView is rumored to come with a Penta-lens setup on the back. The camera cutouts are apparently being called the rings, which explain the codename.

What’s Taking The Nokia 9 PureView So Long?

Apparently, HMD’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, is behind the delay. The Nokia 8 was launched in September last year, which means that the Nokia 9 PureView is pretty late already. Although it’s hard to say what exactly is causing the delay, it might have to do something with the PureView technology that was acquired from Microsoft recently. It appears that more time is required to implement the technology properly.

The different cases and dummy images of the Nokia 9 PureView that have emerged so far have been a little confusing. The phone may or may not come with a notch and it is likely to have thicker bezels than most of the recently released premium phones. The phone might sport a 5.9-inch, QHD resolution 3D glass OLED screen and some reports have even indicated the presence of an in-display fingerprint reader. The Nokia 9 PureView is also rumored to have a glass and metal design.

As mentioned before, the device will reportedly have five cameras on the back, arranged in a circular setup along with an LED flash and probably a dual sensor. The camera specs are not known yet, but the rear camera setup will most likely feature a wide-angle lens, an ultra wide angle lens, telephoto lens, and a monochrome sensor, amongst other things. According to reports, there would only be one camera on the front for taking selfies.

The Nokia 9 PureView is sure shaping up to be an interesting phone and there is a slim chance that it might get announced this month. HMD Global has also scheduled an event in India this month, and who knows, we might get a glimpse of the coveted phone then. Delaying the phone further might not be a good decision, as we will probably see Snapdragon 855-fueled phones in the market from March next year, and most people would go for them instead of a Snapdragon 845-powered device.
