HMD Global is making tons of effort to ensure the Nokia brand name becomes a global phenomenon. The licensee has launched affordable devices with decent specifications and an impressive design that will catch your eye. However, its focus has not been on high-end phones, with the last premium model being the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Even with the upcoming Nokia 9 PureView, there isn’t any official word from both companies related to its launch.

However, if you remember, the powerful Nokia X7 was launched a while back in China, sporting hardware that made the device just a tier below the performance of flagships. HMD Global will be naming the model differently when it arrives in overseas markets, with the smartphone tipped to being called Nokia 8.1. The brand’s Indian Twitter account has shared a teaser that might provide more evidence. Read on more find out.

Nokia 8.1 Could Launch in a Lush Red Color Variant

Nokia’s India Twitter handle did not spill the beans on which model is getting launched so we’ll have to search for other pieces of evidence. After going through the teaser several times, we focused on the status update titled:

“The picture’s about to get rosy with an epic viewing experience. Get ready to #ExpectMore.”

If you recall, the Nokia X7 launched in China features a 6.18-inch FHD+ screen which HMD calls PureDisplay technology. The ‘epic viewing experience’ could relate to the screen showing sharper pictures and more contrast with HDR10 support. The display also supports HDR playback and covers the DCI-P3 wide color gamut for a more vivid and saturated content-viewing experience.

Despite being an LCD, the Nokia 8.1 that’s expected to launch in India will support brightness levels up to 500 nits. Another piece of evidence in the teaser was the width of the notch shown. If you look at the Nokia X7’s display, it too sports a smaller notch. If that wasn’t enough, the smartphone was also launched in the Night Red color variant, but here, the teaser reveals a brighter form of red.

It could be that the Nokia 8.1 getting unveiled in India will have a slightly altered Night Red option. If the (PRODUCT)RED versions of Apple’s iPhones are anything to go by, this color will look very attractive. Let us see what surprises HMD Global has in store for us in the coming weeks. If launched, the Nokia 8.1 will succeed the Nokia 7 Plus (review) as a device that gives you flagship-level features for a lower price.

Nokia 8.1 Expected Launch

If a recent report is to be believed, the Nokia 8.1 is expected to launch in India on November 28. That same report also stated that the price of the smartphone would be INR 23,999, which is most likely for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. The Nokia 8.1 is also the first device from HMD to feature a Snapdragon 710, and it will be part of Google’s Android One program.
