HMD Global-owned Nokia has earned quite a goodwill for itself when it comes to pushing out timely updates. The revived smartphone brand has been quick enough in picking security updates too. Now, in its latest move, the brand’s official security update page has been updated revealing substantial details regarding rollout timeline for the October Security update. Let’s check out the details.
October Security Update Rollout Timeline For Select Nokia Phones
The page reveals the availability details for the October Security update and also lists the build number. Alongside, it also tags if it is a security update or firmware update for specific devices. According to the drop-down list available on the page, here are the phones that are getting or have already received the latest security patch – Nokia 1, Nokia 2.1, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 5.1, Nokia 5.1 Plus, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 8, and Nokia 8 Sirocco.
In case your device has been listed on the page, but you have not received the security update, then we suggest you cross-check the build number of your smartphone with the info provided by HMD Global on the page. The updates are rolled out according to the build number of the phone, if your phone’s build number is different from the one mentioned then you got to wait for the update. The page also mentions that some of the security update details are based on their first market issue, which means that the same device in different market may still be line to receive the update.
The official page reads:
“HMD Global is delivering the latest Security Patches to your Android smartphone as quickly as possible. However, there are several factors which may affect the date you actually receive an update. These factors include device model, region, location, operator approvals, and Google’s Security Patch Monthly Release announcement. Security Patches are also sometimes included with Maintenance Releases. Please note that the quoted release dates refer to the live releases for the first approved markets. In general, the release may take several days to reach all consumers within an approved market.”
Well, Nokia has earned some brownie points there for being an active OEM in not only delivering updates in a timely manner but also sharing all the information related to it. Regular updates have also become a criteria for many smartphone buyers before they select a phone, and with such streak in that arena, we think Nokia will score a fanbase.
