Nokia has been on a roll lately, releasing a number of new Android smartphones, including the Nokia 7.1 Plus, Nokia 3.1 Plus and even the newly launched Nokia X5 (or better known as the Nokia 5.1 Plus). The Nokia 5.1 Plus runs Android Oreo 8.1 operating system and it works like a charm.
It has been only a few days since the device received an update to Android Oreo 8.1 build v1.100. Now, it seems like the update wasn’t good enough as the company is now rolling out another October update for the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The update brings various improvements, including the touchscreen experience on the phone, system performance. It also fixes bugs for an overall improved user experience. Let’s have a look at it in detail.

Nokia 5.1 Plus Smartphone To Receive Software Update With Bug Fixes and App Improvements
According to information available on Weibo, a Chinese networking website, a software update will be rolling out to the Nokia X5 (which is also known as Nokia 5.1 Plus internationally). The Android One powered smartphone is receiving an update which in all likelihood will bring to the device the latest security patch for 2018. The October update includes an upgraded touch driver for the device. This means that the smartphone will have an optimized touch experience and perhaps even improved sensitivity and response time when using the touchscreen. There aren’t any known or recorded issues with regards to the touch functionality of the Nokia 5.1 Plus, but perhaps Nokia has found it best to improve it even further with this update.
Other apps like the Alarm Clock, Calendar, and SMS functionality will be improved as well. Unfortunately, the source doesn’t mention what changes will be brought to these stock applications. Perhaps these include stability improvements and small changes to the look and feel of the apps. The update also promises enhanced international traffic and improvements to various other unmentioned services. As expected, this update will also bring improved system stability, performance improvements, and various other bug fixes. However, what it fixes is still a mystery and will only be disclosed once the update actually rolls out to the Nokia 5.1 Plus, especially in the international market.
Is the Nokia 5.1 Plus Worth It?
The Nokia 5.1 Plus sports a 5.86-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1520×720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The device, like many others, bears the controversial notched display. It is equipped with the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset and is available in a different RAM and storage variants: 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage. The Nokia 5.1 Plus is equipped with a 13MP + 5MP dual rear-camera setup and an 8MP front-facing camera.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus faces stiff competition from the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro and the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 (Review). Considering its price tag and that it falls within the mid-range segment of smartphones, it’s definitely a device to consider. If that isn’t the reason enough, Nokia seems to be working on rolling out software updates for the device. Rumor has it that the device may even receive the Android 9 Pie update by the end of this year. Always remember, the hardware is only as good as the software allows it to be.
