One UI 5.0: Key features

Lock screen customisation

OneUI 5 lock screen customisation

Samsung has provided lock screen customisations for a long time, with Good lock, but it has been limited in features and regions. With One UI 5.0, the lock screen customisations are put at the forefront.

With iOS 16, Apple added heavy customisations on the lock screen. It has prompted Samsung to add more customisations to the lock screen now.

Just like iOS 16, there are different clock faces available for you to choose from. There are six fonts to choose from and different backgrounds. It also has the option to select your videos to set as background. To start the customisations, you can press and hold on to the lock screen to enter the lock screen customisation.

More Material You

OneUI 5 material you

Samsung is embracing Material You design language even more. You are now provided up to 16 preset colour themes based on the wallpaper. Once you set a new wallpaper, One UI 5.0 will show you various colour palettes with colours extracted from the wallpaper. You can select one of these choices or choose any plain colours from the wallpaper.

Stackable widgets

OneUI 5 stacked widgets

One UI 5.0 lets you stack widgets over one another. You can simply drag and drop one widget over the other, turning it into a stacked widget.

Multitasking gestures

OneUI 5 multitasking

Android 13 has made it harder to access the split screen, but Samsung is going the opposite way. With the new gesture, accessing multi-tasking is easier than ever: swiping up from the bottom with two fingers pulls up a split-screen multitasking page. Similarly,

Extract text from images.

The new extract text from images feature on One UI 5.0 lets you copy tests from any photo or screenshot and paste them anywhere you want. When you’re in the Gallery app, you can copy the text from the images by clicking on the yellow ‘T’ button on the bottom right side of the screen to extract the text from any photos. It will let you copy any test shown in the pictures.
