OnePlus is known to be good at providing fast software update and has indeed released two new updates this week alone. The Chinese manufacturer seeded new OxygenOS Open Beta software for the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5, and the OnePlus 5T. The Open Beta updates are available only for users who are using the beta software on their devices. The company usually provides around two beta updates every month, which are 15 days apart. These updates include features that are not yet available to those who using Stable software. Read on to know what’s new in the latest Open Betas for the OnePlus 6, 5, and 5T.
OxygenOS Open Beta 9 for OnePlus 6
The latest Open Beta for the OnePlus 6 was released a few days ago, so you may have already received it. OnePlus seeded the OxygenOS Open Beta 9 for the phone, which included some new features, bug fixes and security improvements. Firstly, the update installs the December Android security patch on the device. It also improved system performance and includes a new toast message for when parallel apps don’t work due to data corruption.
OnePlus also added call history for calls from unknown numbers in the Phone app and optimized the UI to better display calls and Spam. Finally, the update also includes a newer OnePlus Switch app, which adds support for data migration from iPhone. That’s about all the improvements available in this beta. We expect OnePlus to release a stable update for the OnePlus 6 very soon as well.
OxygenOS Open Beta 23/21 for OnePlus 5/5T
The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T are over a year old now, but are still being looked after. In November 2018, OnePlus had driven its 5/5T customers mad when it did not release a stable or beta update for the entire month. Users have been waiting for the Android 9.0 Pie based Open Beta update, but had to wait over a month to receive it. OnePlus finally released the OxygenOS Open Beta 22/20 for the OnePlus 5 and 5T, which is based on Android 9.0 Pie and included the new UI, navigation gestures and more.
Now, the company has seeded yet another Open Beta update for these devices. The latest update installs the December Android security patch on the phones. It fixes a bug that caused the custom accent color to not work sometimes. The update also fixes other issues such as the microphone not working when earphones are plugged in, and frequent crashing of Netflix. Several users had reported that the previous update caused Netflix to crash when launched. This has been fixed in this update.
Apart from those, OnePlus has improved the Face Unlock and color adaptation in the navigation bar. Users are also reporting that the animations are more fluid now and the navigation gestures are smoother. Some users were facing issues with Play Store not being certified in the previous beta. That has also been rectified in the latest beta.
Overall, OnePlus is back to providing timely updates for the OnePlus 5 and 5T, at least for the beta channel. Stable users are still waiting for the Android 9.0 Pie update, which will most likely arrive in January next year. OnePlus had promised to provide the Pie update for the OnePlus 3/3T as well, but there hasn’t been any new information regarding its status. For now, the OnePlus 6T/6 and the OnePlus 5T/5 are running Android Pie software.
