OnePlus finally launched its much-awaited 6T flagship smartphone at an event held in New York City on Monday. It was launched in India at a dedicated event held in New Delhi yesterday. The OnePlus 6T may not be a huge upgrade over the OnePlus 6, but it does offer a few impressive new features that make it one of the most impressive flagship smartphones of 2018. Ahead of its first sale in India and a few other markets, Zack Nelson from JerryRigEverything has posted a video testing the durability of the latest OnePlus flagship smartphone.
OnePlus 6T In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Works Fine Despite Scratches
The OnePlus 6T display is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 6. As expected from a flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6T was found to be fairly durable when it comes to scratch resistance. It fared on par with most other flagship smartphones out there when it came to the display scratch test, although the frosted glass back is a lot less resistant to scratching. On the plus side, however, the in-display fingerprint sensor on the OnePlus 6T continued to work flawlessly even the display area above the sensor was heavily scratched. This clearly means the optical sensor is not affected by scratches at all. When it comes to structural integrity, Zack found that the OnePlus 6T has some flex in the upper half of its body. Fortunately, however, the bend test did not cause any damage to the phone, which proves that OnePlus has done a pretty good job in terms of build. In fact, Zack claims the OnePlus 6T is physically better than the latest iPhones in almost every single way, while being significantly more affordable.
In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Not the Only Reason to Get the OnePlus 6T
The in-display fingerprint sensor on the OnePlus 6T is undoubtedly the main highlight of the smartphone. OnePlus claims the in-display fingerprint sensor on the 6T is the fastest on the market when it comes to unlocking speed. However, the “Screen Unlock” technology is not the only reason why you may want to consider buying the OnePlus 6T.
The OnePlus 6T sports a 6.41-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution and an ultra-tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to a tiny teardrop notch and a slimmer chin at the bottom, OnePlus 6T has a screen-to-body ratio of 86%, a decent improvement over its predecessor. While the smartphone is nearly identical to the OnePlus 6 (review) in terms of hardware specifications, it does come with a larger 3700mAh capacity battery. OnePlus did an impressive job with battery optimization on the OnePlus 6, allowing it to deliver satisfactory battery stamina. With a larger battery, the OnePlus 6T should be a decent improvement over its predecessor in the battery life department.
Another reason to consider the OnePlus 6T is the Nightscape feature. The feature is said to work similarly to the Night Mode on Huawei smartphones, allowing users to capture some stunning low-light shots. OnePlus 6T comes with a new Studio Lighting feature as well, which has been developed in partnership with Photographer Kevin Abosch. The camera hardware, however, remains identical to the OnePlus 6. In the software department, OnePlus 6T will ship with Android Pie-based Oxygen OS 9.0 with a few exclusive features like Gaming Mode and Smart Boost.
