OnePlus recently took covers off its new devices for 2019 in the form of the OnePlus 7 Pro and the OnePlus 7 devices at a major launch event held in Bengaluru. The company also made some key announcements for India with the most important one being the soon to be inaugurated OnePlus store in Hyderabad, which at launch, would be OnePlus’ biggest store on the planet. The company also announced its new Bullets Wireless 2 headsets at the event. Most of us were obviously more interested in the two OnePlus devices that saw officialdom there. Now that we know all the details regarding both these flagship-class devices from the brand, which of these should you buy?
Let’s find out.
Why should you choose the OnePlus 7 Pro over the OnePlus 7?
While there may be several people who would disagree with this, I am pretty sure of the fact that the OnePlus 7 Pro is definitely the better looking of the two. The curved display and the rounded corners of the device add a bit of oomph to the design and the subtle color options on offer add a classy touch.
In overall cool factor too, there is no beating the OnePlus 7 Pro once again thanks to the pop-up selfie camera at the front. While the OnePlus 7 Pro is not the first device to sport such an uncommon front-facing camera, there is a good chance that it might just go on to become the most sold phone with a pop-up selfie camera. Staying with the camera bit, it is also pertinent to note that for the extra cash you pay for the Pro version, you also get a more versatile wide-angle camera at the rear for those dramatic looking shots. The primary camera on both the handsets, however, use the same 48-megapixel sensor that we saw on the Redmi Note 7 Pro.
The OnePlus 7 Pro also gets a bigger, sharper display than the one on the OnePlus 7 with no notch. With a resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels in the 19.5:9 ratio, the OnePlus 7 Pro gets the sharpest ever display on a OnePlus device. In contrast, the OnePlus 7 gets a smaller panel with a lower resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. Both the devices use AMOLED displays.
Why should you choose the OnePlus 7 over the OnePlus 7 Pro?
Now let us take a look at some of the reasons you should get the standard OnePlus 7 over the OnePlus 7 Pro. In this case, the very first thing that goes in favor of the OnePlus 7 is the much lower price of the device.
While the base version of the OnePlus 7 Pro starts at INR 48,999, the base version of the OnePlus 7 will only cost you INR 32,999. The latter gets the same Snapdragon 855 SoC as well as the same RAM and storage capacity. To give you an example of the price disparity, you can buy the base OnePlus 7 and a Realme 3 Pro together and still be left with INR 2,000. The top of the line OnePlus 7 retails for INR 37,999 while the price for the most expensive OnePlus 7 Pro is INR 57,999. You can buy a POCO F1 with the money you save in this instance!
These things apart, some people may not really like the curved display on the Pro and would want to stick to a traditional flat panel. Then there is the fact that the overall performance on both these devices would be near identical which makes the much cheaper OnePlus 7 a very attractive prospect for anyone on the lookout for a new budget flagship.
