OnePlus 8 series smartphone spotted on TENAA

As most of you might know, OnePlus has adopted a six-month refresh cycle for its smartphones. The current generation smartphone lineup from OnePlus, the OnePlus 7T series, was launched back in October. So, the brand is due to launch the next-generation smartphone lineup by the end of April, and everyone is expecting the upcoming smartphone series to be called the OnePlus 8 series. The upcoming smartphone lineup is expected to have two devices – the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. There is also a chance of the brand surprising everyone with the OnePlus 8 Lite. Although, there isn’t a solid confirmation about the device yet. Anyway, if you have been eyeing the OnePlus 8 or the OnePlus 8 Pro, here are the specifications of both the devices we know so far.

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Display

The OnePlus 7 Pro was the first smartphone from the brand to offer a high refresh rate, 90Hz display. Its sibling, the OnePlus 7, however, was left with a 60Hz display disappointingly. That changed with the launch of the OnePlus 7T series. Both the smartphone in the OnePlus 7T series, the OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7T Pro, featured a 90Hz display.

OnePlus has recently showcased a 120Hz refresh rate display. Now, it is highly likely that this display will make its debut in the OnePlus 8 series. Now, we are not sure if both, the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro, will have this 120Hz display or if only the OnePlus 8 Pro will get it, with the OnePlus 8 being left out with a 90Hz screen. Anyway, the display of both the OnePlus 8 series devices will be AMOLED units. The display of the OnePlus 7T came with Full HD+ resolution and that of OnePlus 7T Pro came with QHD+ resolution. Expect the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro to carry over the display resolution from their predecessors.

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Performance

Every OnePlus smartphone (Except OnePlus X) so far has featured a flagship Qualcomm chipset of its time. Currently, the Snapdragon 865 is the flagship mobile chipset from Qualcomm and this is the one that is expected to power both the OnePlus 8 series smartphones. Listing of these devices on benchmarking websites suggests the same thing. With this chipset, the onboard, expect the OnePlus 8 series devices to have the most powerful, if not, one of the most powerful smartphones in the Android world.

The OnePlus 7T offers up to 8GB RAM, whereas, the OnePlus 7T Pro offers up to 12GB RAM. The brand is expected to increase the RAM capacities further with the launch of the OnePlus 8 series. Expect the OnePlus 8 to offer up to 12GB RAM and OnePlus 8 Pro to offer up to 16GB RAM. Both the smartphone will run on Android 10 with Oxygen OS on top.

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Cameras

The OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7T Pro feature a triple camera setup at the rear with a 48MP primary camera. The OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro are expected to offer one more rear camera than their predecessors. The quad-camera setup in both the smartphones is expected to feature a 64MP primary sensor, a 12MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 20MP ultrawide camera. The fourth camera in the OnePlus 8 is expected to be a macro camera, while the OnePlus 8 Pro being a costlier device, is expected to pack a 3D ToF sensor as a fourth camera to map surroundings in 3D space.

The Snapdragon 865 chipset, which is expected to power the OnePlus 8 series smartphones, supports 8K video recording. And taking advantage of the chipset’s capabilities, the OnePlus 8 series smartphone could have 8K video recording capability. While 8K video recording sounds interesting, I doubt how good will it look, since 8K video recording support in Snapdragon 865 is capped at 24 frames per second. And at that frame rate, the 8K videos might look choppy. Anyway, there will be 4K@60FPS option in both the smartphones, just like their predecessors, for you to reply on.

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Battery

To recall, the OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7T Pro came with larger batteries than that in their predecessors. So, considering this, the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro will come with larger batteries than that in the OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7T Pro. Considering that most flagship smartphones nowadays are offering charging speeds of 50W and above, expect the OnePlus 8 series to feature a charging wattage of 50 watts and above.

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Design

Render images of the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro have already leaked. If these images are to be believed, both the smartphones in the OnePlus 8 series will have a design language similar to that of the OnePlus 7T, which includes a vertical camera arrangement at the back, smooth edges all around, and glass panel at the rear.

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Price and Launch Date

OnePlus has been increasing the price of its smartphones with every iteration. If that is going to be the case with the OnePlus 8 series, which, it most probably will, the OnePlus 8 will start at around INR 35,000, whereas, the OnePlus 8 Pro could start around INR 55,000.

Although there is no official confirmation, leaks and rumors that we have so far, suggest that OnePlus could launch the OnePlus 8 series smartphone on April 15, 2020.
